The Financial and Administrative Officer (FAO) for the Departments of Creative Writing, Dance, Music, Theatre, Film and Digital Production, Palm Desert Low-Residency MFA, the University Theater, and the Performing Arts Administration reports to the Divisional FAO for CHASS with a dotted line reporting to the four Department Chairs/Program Directors. The FAO provides management, coordination and oversight of daily operations for these independently operated academic units.

Key units overseen include access control, payroll, reconciliation, reporting, budget approvals for the Palm Desert Low-Residency MFA, payroll review, purchasing approvals for the University Theater, and a broad administrative support unit covering finance, human resources, academic support, contracts and grants, facilities management, and other operational matters.
The academic personnel mix is 47 tenure‑track faculty, 55 other academic appointments (Visiting Professors, Professors of Teaching, Continuing Lecturers, Unit 18 Lecturers, V & I Instructors, Teaching Assistants), and 10 professional production staff. The Performing Arts Administration employs 14 staff members. Facilities, equipment and instrument oversight involves 52,000 sq. ft. of space, specialized studio space, and special collections (exhibits, costumes, lab equipment) totaling over $3.5 million.
The five departments and the Theatre Facilities Unit have operating budgets exceeding $10 million.
The FAO manages business accountability, stewardship, publicity and support functions to advance departmental and CHASS goals, fulfilling the university mission. Responsibilities include organizing work to achieve stated goals, identifying objectives, developing strategies and policies, and functioning with a high degree of autonomy.
Key Responsibilities- Provide management, coordination and oversight of daily operations for the four academic units.
- Manage access control to all department spaces.
- Oversee payroll, reconciliation and reporting functions.
- Approve budgets for the Palm Desert Low‑Residency MFA and approve purchasing for the University Theater.
- Provide financial, HR, academic support, contracts and grants, and facilities management for the administrative support unit.
- Ensure business accountability, stewardship, publicity and support functions align with departmental and university goals.
- Develop strategies and policies, and function autonomously to achieve departmental objectives.
Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. The University is currently unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for staff.
