Build and cut lumber by operating saws as required.
PURPOSEOperate basic saw types such as pop‑up, miter, and web saws to cut planks, timbers, or boards according to work orders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Review work order to determine cuts to be made.
- Adjust saw for required cuts.
- Adjust speed of saw and feed rolls.
- Observe automatic feeding of lumber to saw or push end of lumber into feed rolls.
- Stack cut lumber after processing.
- Advise supervisor of dull saw blades.
- Other duties as assigned.
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSLess than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Mathematical skills – Ability to add and subtract two‑digit numbers and multiply/divide with 10's and 100's; read tape measures at 1/16 inch. Reasoning ability – Apply common sense to simple one- or two‑step instructions; handle standardized situations with minimal variations. Other skills – Identify species, size, and grade of lumber.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL ACTIVITY- Required to stand and use hands and arms to handle or feel and reach with hands.
- Occasionally walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear.
- Regularly lift or move up to 10 lbs; frequently lift or move up to 25 lbs; occasionally lift or move up to 50 lbs.
- Requires close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; and outdoor weather conditions.
- Noise level is usually very loud.
