Job Overview

The Manager, Production is responsible for the overall performance of the fabrication and welding departments by developing and focusing organizational resources to continually add value to internal and external customers. The position involves short to medium term planning within a fast‑paced environment.

Responsibilities

The role is divided into three primary areas:

Production Management Scope (60%)
  • Drive all operations for the manufacturing of Fabrication, Weld, SSW, and SSL department product families, including automatic presses.
  • Oversee the production cycle from raw material management to finished goods shipment and lead department supervisors.
  • Ensure daily performance to Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost; take timely corrective action when targets are not met.
  • Collaborate with Production Planning and Scheduling to adjust labor and equipment allocation in response to customer demand.
  • Own the department’s Value Stream Map(s) and lead continuous improvement initiatives that drive progress in Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost performance.
  • Develop, analyze, and present reports on safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Conduct process audits to identify containment, corrective, and preventive actions; lead Kaizen events to improve processes.
  • Manage staff assignments, employee training, vacations, overtime, absenteeism, and temporary employment.
Talent Development (20%)
  • Design, implement, and continuously refine a comprehensive training roadmap for new hires and tenured employees, covering safety protocols, SOPs, production process updates, and product changes.
  • Apply effective performance management strategies, including setting clear goals, providing recognition, and coaching to address underperformance.
  • Act as a coach and mentor, encouraging growth, ownership, and a supportive workplace culture.
Leadership Responsibilities (20%)
  • Drive capability building through structured cross‑training initiatives across value streams.
  • Document and formalize critical operational knowledge, converting tribal knowledge into standardized work instructions.
  • Investigate and document incidents related to safety, attendance, and process deviations; administer progressive discipline when appropriate.
Desired Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience.
  • 5-10 years in a Lean Manufacturing Environment.
  • 5 years leading high-performing teams; 2 years executing a lean vision and journey.
  • 2 years experience with ERP/MRP systems, SAP a plus.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, cost management, and related manufacturing techniques.
  • Strong accountability, analysis, communication, problem solving, critical thinking, and leadership skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and ERP systems such as SAP and OEE software.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing concepts: elimination of waste, continuous improvement, S5, Kaizen, Quality Built In, JIT, Kanban, leveled production.
  • Mathematics proficiency in arithmetic, algebra, geometry, statistics, and applications.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
  • Must frequently sit, talk, and hear; may occasionally walk and stand; may lift or push up to 25 lbs.
  • Work occurs in a professional office environment with standard office equipment.
Location, Compensation, and Benefits
  • Full-time, exempt position located in Riverside, CA.
  • Annual salary range: $91,200 - $118,500.
  • Travel (up to 10% domestic) required.
