Material Handler

The Material Handler supports manufacturing operations by accurately pulling, staging, and delivering materials based on work orders and production schedules. This role focuses primarily on manual material handling, with occasional use of sit-down forklifts, and requires careful attention to inventory accuracy, organization, and safe handling practices. The Material Handler works closely with warehouse and production teams to ensure materials are available when needed and that the facility remains safe, clean, and efficient.

Responsibilities

  • Pull and stage materials for production based on work orders and schedules, primarily by hand for most of the shift.
  • Load, unload, and transport materials within the facility using a sit-down Hyundai forklift when needed, following proper handling and safety techniques.
  • Maintain and control the replenishment of assembly materials through simulations, minimum/maximum levels, put-away processes, ordering, and pulling kits based on sales orders and the production schedule.
  • Organize bins and work centers efficiently, including proper label placement, consistent labeling, and effective utilization of floor space.
  • Prepare for and participate in physical inventory counts to ensure accurate stock levels.
  • Receive, inspect, and verify incoming shipments for accuracy, quality, and compliance with documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of material transactions in the inventory system, including receipts, issues, and adjustments.
  • Safely handle and dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with company policies and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with warehouse and production teams to prevent material shortages, delays, and production interruptions.
  • Identify and report damaged, defective, or nonconforming materials to the appropriate personnel for corrective action.
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards to support a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Deliver raw materials and components to production areas as needed to support continuous operations.
  • Support cycle counting and other inventory control activities to maintain accurate on-hand quantities.
  • Assist with picking, packing, loading, and general material handling tasks as required by daily operations.

Essential Skills

  • Experience working with metals or in a manufacturing environment (not from food industry).
  • General labor and material handling experience in a production or warehouse setting.
  • Ability to operate forklifts, including sit-down forklifts, and other material handling equipment safely.
  • Hands-on experience with inventory, picking, packing, loading, and material handling tasks.
  • Understanding of warehouse and inventory management principles, including replenishment and cycle counting.
  • Knowledge of safe material handling practices and equipment operation.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems or similar tools for tracking inventory transactions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials safely, including up to 40 lbs and heavier items with assistance.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with warehouse and production teams.
  • Ability to maintain organization of bins, work centers, and floor space.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in automotive manufacturing or similar industrial environments.
  • Comfort working with welding-related operations and materials, including awareness of fumes and particulates.
  • Strong attention to detail for accurate labeling, documentation, and verification of incoming and outgoing materials.
  • Ability to adapt to changing production demands and priorities.
  • Reliable attendance and a strong commitment to workplace safety and housekeeping.
