Arrow Staffing is seeking an experienced Lead, Process / Set-Up Machinist to join a growing machine shop team. This position serves as the technical bridge between Programming, Engineering, Quality, and Production
, helping turn new or revised CNC programs into repeatable, documented, and production-ready machining processes.
The ideal candidate will have significant CNC setup experience and be comfortable troubleshooting machining issues, working with CNC Programmers and other departments, improving processes, and mentoring other machinists.
GeneralJob Duties for the Lead, Process / Set-Up Machinist
- Work closely with CNC Programming, Engineering, Quality, and Production teams.
- Set up and prove out new or revised CNC programs.
- Troubleshoot machining and process issues.
- Provide feedback to CNC Programmers and recommend improvements.
- Recommend tooling, work holding, and feeds/speeds changes.
- Identify process risks and help establish repeatable machining processes.
- Run first-article parts and verify parts against drawings and specifications.
- Work with Quality on inspection requirements.
- Develop and finalize setup sheets and document tooling, work holding, and critical setup requirements.
- Identify special inspection requirements and document lessons learned.
- Help ensure approved programs and setup sheets are properly documented for future production.
- Mentor and train CNC Machinist I/II employees and Journeyman Machinists.
- Reinforce proper setup, quality, and documentation practices.
- Identify opportunities to improve cycle times, reduce setup time, improve tooling and work holding, and reduce scrap and rework.
Job Duties or Requirements
- 815+ years of machining experience with significant CNC setup experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with CNC setup and machining processes.
- Ability to set up and prove out new or revised NC programs.
- Ability to troubleshoot machining issues and identify process problems.
- Experience working directly with CNC Programmers and providing feedback on programs.
- Experience recommending tooling, work holding, and feeds/speeds improvements.
- Ability to run first-article parts to completion and verify parts against drawings and specifications.
- Experience working with Quality on inspection requirements and first-article documentation.
- Ability to create or finalize setup sheets and accurately document tooling, work holding, and critical setup requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify potential process risks.
- Ability to mentor and train other machinists on proper setup practices.
- Ability to identify opportunities for continuous improvement, including reducing setup time, cycle time, scrap, and rework.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with Programming, Engineering, Quality, and Production.
