ABOUT THE POSITION

The Riverside County Fire Department is seeking a Registered Nurse V for the Ben Clark Training Center (BCTC) in Riverside. The incumbent will develop policies and procedures, oversee Emergency Medical Services educational programs, manage patient care in coordination with agencies such as REMSA, Public Health, and CALFIRE, and monitor the Continuing Quality Improvement (CQI) Program. Candidates should have training experience in Critical Care, Trauma, and Stroke.

EXAMPLES

OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Assess, plan, organize, provide, and/or oversee nursing care to patients in accordance with physician instructions within the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Lead or chair committee meetings, present data, and assist management in making administrative and operational decisions.
  • Audit patient records, present performance improvement plans twice annually, review and revise policies, and conduct in‑service education at least twice a year.
  • Develop standards of care, support supervisory staff, and ensure quality and productivity standards are met.
  • Conduct research and special unit studies to enhance professionalism, quality standards, and customer satisfaction.
  • Identify needs for new nursing or mental health procedures, draft protocols, and facilitate implementation at the department level.
  • Assess training needs and develop programs; teach classes at least twice a year.
  • Draft recommendations for standards of care, policies, procedures, and quality indicators; provide education and monitor compliance.
  • Oversee development, implementation, and coordination of special programs, services, and education in the healthcare setting and community outreach.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with hospitals and county agencies to support a competent county EMS system.
  • Interface with professionals to ensure continuity of care and system improvement projects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Examples of specialty areas:
Emergency Department (ED), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Trauma Department, or flight nurse in an acute care hospital or healthcare setting.

OPTION I
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in nursing or a health‑related field and a current valid national certification.
  • Experience: Nine years as a full‑time Registered Nurse with at least two years in a specialty area.
OPTION II
  • Education: Master's degree in nursing or a health‑related field.
  • Experience: Seven years as a full‑time Registered Nurse with at least two years in a specialty area.
ALL OPTIONS
  • Knowledge of: Teaching and supervising professional nursing principles, medical terminology, instruments, medications, community resources, and applicable laws.
  • Ability to: Perform, supervise, instruct in nursing duties; plan nursing care; maintain records; establish relationships with physicians, patients, and providers; teach and mentor; prepare reports; evaluate data; and maintain professional development.

LICENSE
  • Current valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in California.
  • Valid California Driver's License.
CERTIFICATE
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course Certification and Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses certification are highly preferred.
