Responsibilities
Responsible for covering clinical offices based on operational need. Assists in the examination and treatment of patients, takes vital signs, records patient charges and history, assists in minor office procedures. Participates in patient education, communicates effectively with others, and functions within the scope of practice. Possesses thorough knowledge of infection control and aseptic techniques.
HoursThree 12‑hour shifts.
QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED required. Current California licensure as Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). Graduate of an accredited LVN program. One year previous experience in an ambulatory care setting. Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) and IV certification required; ACLS certification preferred.
Essential Functions- Review patient medical record prior to visit to ensure chart readiness for physician.
- Interview patients; measure vital signs, pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height; record information on patient’s chart.
- Prepare treatment room for examination of patients; assist physician with procedures; clean examination room and sterilize appropriate equipment after use.
- Explain procedures and treatments to patients and their family to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension.
- Administer treatments and perform routine laboratory tests under supervision of a Physician, Allied Health Professional, or a Registered Nurse.
- Initiate intravenous lines, add plain IV fluids to existing lines, and discontinue lines under the direction of the Physician or an Allied Health Professional (must be IV certified).
- Complete all documentation to ensure accurate medical records. Assure that physician has signed chart; review physician orders to verify that all orders have been carried out. Return patient chart to medical records.
- Inventory and order medical supplies and materials, as needed.
- Ensure all expired sample medications and patient supplies are discarded upon expiration date.
- Act within the LVN scope of practice and Riverside Medical Clinic policies and procedures.
- Provide functional/technical assistance to Medical Assistants.
- Maintain current California LVN licensure and BLS certificate.
