Licensed Vocational Nurse II – Community Health Centers, Riverside University Health System (RUHS)
The County of Riverside – Riverside University Health System (RUHS) – Community Health Centers is seeking an experienced licensed vocational nurse II to join our CHC‑Family Clinic team in Riverside. Under supervision and direction of a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or physician, the incumbent will be responsible for rooming and discharging patients, taking vital signs, completing outreach, refilling prescriptions, and performing nursing duties within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing in the care of patients in the Department of Mental Health or Public Health Ambulatory Family Health Center, as well as other related duties as required.
A minimum of two years of outpatient clinical or ambulatory care LVN experience, along with Spanish bilingual skills, is highly preferred. Foundational proficiency in Spanish is required.
Key Responsibilities- Provide nursing care within scope of the Nurse Practice Act; prepare patients for physicians and other providers; administer medications via subcutaneous, intramuscular, intradermal, subdermal, and oral routes.
- Take temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure; apply and change dressings; collect specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Assist with examinations, tests, and treatments; perform minor surgical procedures, PAP smears, colposcopies.
- Perform venipuncture, intramuscular injections, immunizations (pediatric and adult) including TB tests, Coccidioidin skin tests, and Histoplasmin skin tests.
- Maintain accurate charting and documentation; collect data; review charts, schedule services, and ensure continuity of care.
- Counsel, advise, and educate patients on health care methods; set clinic appointments; refer patients to specialty care; coordinate care with outside agencies.
- Assist physicians, registered nurses, and mid‑level providers with special treatments, examinations, and intravenous therapy; maintain medical records per policies.
- Observe patient condition and behavior; report significant changes to supervisor.
- Lead health services assistants, certified medical assistants, office assistants, and other LVNs under supervision of a physician, registered nurse, or mid‑level provider.
- At least one year of successful LVN experience, preferably in a public health clinic setting.
- Current California Vocational Nurse’s License issued by the California Board of Vocational Nurses.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Proficient knowledge of nursing principles, techniques, and procedures within scope of the Nurse Practice Act.
- Medical terminology, acute care procedures, medication administration, and familiarity with policies and procedures of the setting.
- Ability to perform full range of vocational nursing duties and responsibilities; follow policies and procedures; establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, mid‑level providers, RNs, patients, and co‑workers; complete reports and patient records; observe and report accurately.
The position requires 80% standing and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodations.
Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
