Licensed Vocational Nurse II - CHC-Rubidoux

Position Summary

The County of Riverside - Riverside University Health System (RUHS) Community Health Centers is seeking a Bilingual Pediatric Traveling Licensed Vocational Nurse II to join the CHC‑Rubidoux team. The role is supervised by a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, or physician. Responsibilities include supporting pediatricians, rooming and discharging patients, submitting prior authorizations, scheduling appointments, processing referrals, managing vaccines, and performing all nursing duties within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing in hospital inpatient or outpatient clinic settings.

Travel between the Corona and Rubidoux clinics is required. The incumbent will travel to Rubidoux on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and to Corona on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Work schedule:

5/40 training 8:00 am–5:00 pm; after probation 9/80 non‑pay week (Monday‑Thursday 7:30 am–5:00 pm, Friday pay week 8:00 am–5:00 pm).

• California Vocational Nurse's License issued by the California Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technician Examiners.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.

• Prepare patients for physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners; care for patients during treatment.
• Administer medications using subcutaneous, intramuscular, intradermal, subdermal, and/or oral methods.
• Take temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure of patients as necessary.
• Apply and change dressings and care wounds; collect specimens for laboratory analysis.
• Assist physicians, registered nurses, and mid‑level providers in performing examinations, tests, respiratory care, and other treatments including minor surgical procedures, PAP smears, and colposcopies.
• Perform venipuncture and injections of medications including biological immunizations for pediatrics and adults; conduct tuberculin skin tests, coccidioidin skin tests, and histoplasmin skin tests as part of tuberculosis control program.
• Document all required information within scope of the Nurse Practice Act; chart treatments and medications; maintain medical records; collect data for scheduling appropriate services; maintain clinical records, reports, and charge tickets.
• Counsel, advise, and educate patients regarding proper health care methods; set clinic appointments per policies; refer patients for specialty care to outside agencies using payor knowledge for appropriate referrals.
• Assist in administration of special treatments, examinations, and intravenous therapy; chart treatments and maintain records per policies.
• Participate in patient education and rehabilitation programs; document data appropriately.
• Observe patients' condition and behavior; report significant changes to supervisor.
• Act under supervision as nursing leader over health services assistants, certified medical assistants, office assistants, and other LVNs when assigned.

• At least one year of successful experience as an LVN, preferably in a public health clinic environment.
• Knowledge of current principles, techniques, and procedures used in vocational nursing within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act; medical terminology; acute care procedures and equipment; medication administration; and policies and procedures of the assigned setting.
• Ability to perform all vocational nursing duties and responsibilities skillfully; learn and follow policies and procedures; establish effective working relationships with physicians, mid‑level providers, registered nurses, patients, and co‑workers; complete and maintain reports and patient records; observe and report situations accurately.

• Possession of valid California Vocational Nurse's License and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Valid California Driver's License, as travel is required.

Bilingual (Spanish) assessment will be coordinated by the Human Resources Department.
