Job Description

Responsible for covering clinical offices based on operational need. Assists in the examination and treatment of patients: take vital signs, record patient charges, record patient history, and assist in minor office procedures. Participates in patient education and communicates effectively with patients and staff, operating within the scope of practice. Maintains thorough knowledge of infection control and aseptic techniques. Works at varied locations as required.

Functions
  • Cooperate in the cross‑training of this position to ensure coverage at all times for all offices.
  • Interview patients; measure vital signs, pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height; record information on the patient’s chart.
  • Prepare the treatment room for patient examination; assist the physician with procedures; clean and sterilize equipment after use.
  • Explain procedures and treatments to patients and their families to gain cooperation and understanding and allay apprehension.
  • Administer prescribed medication orally or by injection (subcutaneous, intramuscular, or intradermal) and document time, dosage, and route on the patient’s chart. Observe patient and report adverse reactions.
  • Administer treatments and perform routine laboratory tests under a physician’s or RN’s supervision.
  • Initiate intravenous lines, add plain IV fluids to existing lines, and discontinue lines under the direction of a physician or allied health professional (must be IV certified).
  • Perform electrocardiographs (EKG), pulse oximetry, inhalation treatments, and operate other certified equipment.
  • Travel between departments and facilities on an as‑needed basis based on coverage requirements. Inventory and order medical supplies and materials as needed.
  • Functions in the LVN scope of practice and Riverside Medical Clinic policies and procedures. Responsible for ensuring all expired sample medications and patient supplies are discarded upon expiration. Maintains current California LVN licensure and BLS certificate.

    Qualifications

    Education:

    High‑school diploma or GED required. Current California licensure as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). Graduate of an accredited school of Licensed Vocational Nursing. Two years’ experience preferred in a multi‑specialty group setting.

    Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
    Current California LVN license;
    Current AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professionals (AHA BLS Healthcare) certification and IV certification required. Current ACLS certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred.

    Hours

    Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
