Job Description

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Although each NVA hospital is unique, they all share a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and exceptional service to animals and the people who love them.

Responsibilities
  • Gather patient histories.
  • Perform physical examinations.
  • Create treatment plans.
  • Conduct diagnostics.
  • Provide dentistry services.
  • Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures.
  • Manage medical care of patients.
  • Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Qualifications
  • 3rd or 4th year veterinary students.
  • Students in the clinical portion of their education.

Externship length ranges from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Externs can gain experience at any of the three Eagle Animal Hospital locations:
Riverside, Liberty, and Tiffany Springs.

Veterinary students in the clinical portion are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. See stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
