Quality Technician
The Quality Technician performs standardized quality control tests and inspections on products, materials, and components to ensure they meet internal and external quality standards. This role records and analyzes statistical data, clearly documents and communicates non-conformances, and supports continuous improvement activities. The Quality Technician resolves routine quality questions and issues, and escalates more complex problems when needed, while taking on new activities and special assignments as the operation evolves.
Responsibilities- Perform standardized quality control tests and inspections on products, materials, and components in a manufacturing environment.
- Ensure all products comply with internal and external quality standards and specifications.
- Record statistical data from inspections and compare results to established standards and tolerances.
- Clearly document and communicate non-conformances, including detailed descriptions of issues and affected parts.
- Use appropriate inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, thread gauges, tape measures, and other hand and power tools to verify dimensions and quality.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints to determine inspection requirements and tolerances.
- Apply quality assurance and quality control principles to daily inspection tasks.
- Resolve routine quality-related questions and problems, and refer more complex issues to higher-level personnel.
- Participate in lean and continuous improvement activities to enhance quality processes and reduce defects.
- Perform basic math calculations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals to verify measurements and tolerances.
- Enter inspection and quality data into PC-based systems accurately and in a timely manner.
- Prioritize inspection tasks and problem-solve to meet production schedules and quality objectives.
- Maintain attention to detail while working near moving mechanical parts and in a fast-paced production environment.
- Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively as required for inspections.
- Support special assignments and new quality initiatives as needed.
- 1–2 years of previous experience in a manufacturing environment or related field.
- Previous inspection experience in a production or manufacturing setting.
- Hands-on experience with quality inspection and quality assurance processes.
- Ability to use inspection tools including micrometers, calipers, thread gauges, tape measures, and other hand tools.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Ability to perform basic math with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- PC skills sufficient to document inspection data and maintain quality records.
- Ability to problem-solve and prioritize tasks in a production environment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in measurements and documentation.
- Ability to lift 10–40 pounds as part of regular job duties.
- Ability to stand for up to 8 hours per day in a manufacturing setting.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to mechanical equipment.
- Comfort working with hand and power tools in proximity to moving mechanical parts.
- General mechanical aptitude and familiarity with quality control concepts.
- Ability to work safely around oil, grease, dust, metal particles, and sharp-edged materials.
