Laboratory Technician – Sciences (Natural Sciences & Kin) – Part‑time – Moreno Valley College
Position Type:
Classified / Confidential – Part‑time, 19.5 hours per week, 12‑month term, grade K, salary $36.09 – $43.93 per month.
Location:
Moreno Valley, Riverside Community College District.
- Education: Associate’s degree with coursework in a scientific field (physics, chemistry, biology, microbiology, or a related life/physical science) and two years of technical experience in a science‑focused laboratory.
- Experience & Knowledge:
- Familiarity with laboratory methods, techniques, and procedures used in a college science department.
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment, materials, supplies, and procedures for life/physical sciences.
- Skill in preparing reagents, chemical solutions, and stains.
- Proficiency in storing and preserving biological specimens and cultures.
- Understanding of diagnostic tools for repair, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Awareness of environmental health and safety regulations affecting laboratory operations.
- Experience with inventory techniques and record‑keeping principles.
- Abilities:
- Apply laboratory safety regulations and handle hazardous materials safely.
- Prepare and preserve specimens, cultures, and related materials.
- Synthesize, coordinate, and analyze data with precision.
- Monitor laboratory expenditures and maintain compliance with budget limits.
- Generate accurate computerized records, databases, and reports.
- Use hand and power tools for instrument maintenance.
- Set up laboratory equipment and materials for experiments.
- Organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and follow up on assignments.
- Exercise independent judgment within policy guidelines.
- Use computer systems and software relevant to work tasks.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers, students, and vendors.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Provide high‑level customer service to the public and internal personnel.
Requires mobility in a standard office setting; light to moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds with assistance); dexterity for data entry; ability to stand, walk, and access equipment frequently.
