Laboratory Technician – Sciences (Natural Sciences & Kin) – Moreno Valley College

Position Type: Part‑Time, 12‑month; 19.5 hours per week.

Salary Range: Grade K – $36.09 – $43.93 per month.

Perform laboratory duties in a science department, ensuring timely preparation of chemical solutions, setup and disassembly of experiments, inventory management, maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment, and support for faculty and students.

• Develop, organize, implement, and coordinate laboratory methods for a diversified science department.
• Prepare chemical solutions, reagents, stains, and maintain specimen cultures.
• Set up and dismantle experiments, assemble, clean, replace, and store laboratory equipment.
• Order, receive, store, and issue inventory chemicals, supplies, and equipment.
• Maintain laboratory safety protocols, monitor and dispose hazardous materials, and enforce safety procedures.
• Perform equipment maintenance, repairs, and calibrations; notify appropriate personnel of needed repairs.
• Track laboratory budget expenditures, match orders with invoices, and generate spreadsheets and reports.
• Assist with planning and implementation of experimentation design and laboratory exercises.
• Provide technical support for instructional computing needs and data acquisition software.
• Implement and revise laboratory policies and procedures; recommend safety‑related improvements.
• Participate in district‑provided training; perform other related duties as assigned.

• Associate's degree in a scientific field (physics, chemistry, biology, microbiology) and two years of technical experience in a science‑focused laboratory testing environment, or equivalent.
• Knowledge of laboratory equipment, materials, and procedures used in college science departments.
• Experience with reagent preparation, biological specimen storage, instrument calibration, and laboratory safety.
• Ability to learn and apply environmental health and safety regulations.
• Ability to handle hazardous materials safely and dispose of them properly.
• Proficiency in maintaining accurate computerized records and using relevant software applications.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Customer‑service orientation and sensitivity to diverse academic backgrounds.

Mobility in an office/laboratory setting; ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds; use of standard office equipment; standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, and pulling drawers and material; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech for communication.
