Position: Plant Engineer III - Variable Shifts and Schedules

Plant Engineer III – Variable Shifts and Schedules (Riverside, CA) Job Summary

Operates and maintains all plant operations equipment including all boilers, chillers, HVAC systems, pumps, motors, and compressors. Operates all machines vital to maintenance and repair. Performs water treatment analysis and necessary adjustments.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Upholds Kaiser Permanente policies, procedures, principles, and applicable state, federal, and local laws. Operates, maintains, inspects, and repairs boilers, motors, steam reducing stations, expansion tanks, air compressors, fans, pumps, valves, steam traps, water treatment systems, and heaters. Adjusts, maintains, and tests boiler and air conditioning/refrigeration equipment and related control instruments. Maintains safety devices and makes required adjustments. Performed electrical repairs (lamps, ballasts, line cords, light switches, fuses), conducts electrical safety tests, and examines boilers, cooling towers, and other systems for water quality.

    Adds chemicals, unclogs pipes, performs routine repairs on equipment such as stethoscopes, otoscopes, vacuum units, autoclaves, and hospital beds. Reads blueprints, schematics, single-line diagrams, and repair manuals. Performs preventive maintenance (cleaning, oiling, painting, calibration), and provides on-the-job training for skilled maintenance staff. Maintains logs of all plant operations and HVAC systems. Performs welding, brazing, soldering, and locksmithing tasks. Drives trucks or vans to outlying clinics.

    Promotes customer service and internal/external quality service. Assumes additional activities and responsibilities as directed.
  • Completes work assignments that include installing plant equipment, hanging signs, maintaining time clocks, and determining equipment malfunctions. Adjusts, disassembles, repairs, or replaces parts and components; reassembles and tests equipment for safe operation. Operates blueprint-reading, gauges evaluation, and meters monitoring to ensure equipment runs within safety and state-code compliance. Cleans or supervises cleaning of boilers and associated equipment, records operating data, isolates electrical problems, and performs repairs.

    Maintains and repairs air conditioning and refrigeration equipment including electrical circuit analysis. Troubleshoots thermostats, ice machines, humidifiers, air dampers, and performs welding or soldering of metal materials. Performs circuit analysis to isolate defective electrical components and recalibrates equipment. Notifies of maintenance issues and performs complex repairs using schematics and wiring diagrams. Provides exceptional customer service and complies with internal and external standards.

    Assumes other roles as directed.
Basic Qualifications

Experience:

Requires meeting three of the following skill levels:

  • San Bernardino County – possession of the LA Unlimited Steam Engineers License and EPA Rule 608 Universal Certification.
  • Riverside Medical Center – possession of the LA Unlimited Steam Engineers License or the 500 HP LA City Steam Engineers License and EPA Rule 608 Universal Certification.
  • Extensive knowledge of Central Plant, HVAC, and electrical related equipment and systems; ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Employment with refrigeration experience must possess EPA Rule 608 Universal Certification.
Education
  • San Bernardino County and Riverside Medical Center – EPA Rule 608 Universal Certification.
  • San Bernardino – possession of the LA Unlimited Steam Engineers License.
  • Riverside Medical Center – possession of the LA Unlimited Steam Engineers License or the 500 HP LA City Steam Engineers License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Four years recent experience in building plant operations and maintenance.
  • Three years experience in a hospital setting.
