Duties
Coordinates, leads, and trains cemetery caretaker personnel and engineer equipment operator personnel in the performance of interment tasks and marker installation. Coordinates with the cemetery foreman, passes on instructions to other workers, assigns tasks, ensures necessary plans, equipment, materials, and tools are available, obtains stock from supply locations, checks work in process, ensures compliance with supervisor's instructions, ensures employees follow instructions to meet deadlines.
Demonstrates proper work methods, answers workers’ questions regarding procedures, policies, and other directives, obtains needed information or decisions from the supervisor on problems that arise during work. Provides status and progress updates to the foreman, reports causes of delays, prepares oral and written progress reports, maintains records of work and time expended using computer and word processing programs. Assures safety and housekeeping rules are followed.
Works alongside other workers, sets the pace. Operates cemetery equipment as assigned during normal and emergency operations.
Work schedule: May be required to work Monday through Friday, including occasional weekends. The cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any time. When a Federal holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that holiday or a Saturday. All staff is required to work Memorial Day each year. Staff will be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery.
Occasionally staff may be called back to the facility to perform emergency overtime work.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/20/2026. Your background must demonstrate work involved in grounds maintenance, landscaping, interment, including layout and excavation of new grave sites, and reopening occupied gravesites with extreme caution to avoid damage to previously interred containers. As a work leader, the incumbent motivates, coaches, trains, and advises other employees to follow instructions received from the foreman and to meet deadlines.
Experience: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but candidates must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of ability to perform the duties. Evidence must be supported by detailed descriptions on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C.

Physical RequirementsModerate to heavy exertion is required in operating large vehicles and equipment. The incumbent will be exposed to frequent walking, kneeling, stooping, bending and lifting more than 100 pounds.
