Overview
The County of Riverside's Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) seeks multiple Social Services Practitioner III positions for its Lake Elsinore Office, CA for the Adult Services Division (ASD). Frequent driving may be required for all positions. Competitive candidates will be referred to the department on an ongoing basis.
All applicants must upload a copy of their official and/or unofficial transcripts of their completed degree from an accredited college or university.

- Proven ability to collaborate with other professionals to meet client needs and promote quality care, safety, and well-being
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge and ability to learn and apply complex laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to clients
- Strong critical thinking, analytical, organizational, and time management skills
- Tech-savvy with the ability to learn and use specialized case management software
- Carry a caseload of complex social service cases requiring technical competence; assess client problems and develop treatment plans
- Complete case studies to assess problems and determine treatment approaches; develop intensive long- or short-term plans
- Act in a lead capacity for small teams and provide casework consultation to staff
- Function at a highly skilled level in areas such as counseling, protective services, medical social work, family services, and community organization
- Maintain casework records, prepare reports and correspondence, and conduct field visits as needed
- Assess family environments to determine safety needs and, when required, support removals or placements in compliance with safety regulations
- Interpret public social service rules and policies to clients and the public
- Coordinate with medical staff and outside agencies; provide social work services to help patients and families adjust to illness or disability
- Provide counseling in marital, family, or adoptive settings; assist in staff development and professional guidance
- Assist in training and education programs related to social services and care delivery
- Maintain up-to-date electronic records in the centralized case management system
- Assignments may be in In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS), Adult Protective Services (APS), or IHSS Public Authority
- Educational Support Program (ESP) may provide up to $5,250 per year for two years; includes career development and tuition assistance options; details available via program links
- Option I:
Bachelor’s degree in social welfare, social/behavioral sciences, counseling, or related field; one year equivalent to a County of Riverside Social Services Practitioner II - Option II:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field; two years of casework experience in public/private human services; experience assessing client needs and forming case plans - Option III:
Master’s degree in a related field - Positions assigned to healthcare facilities: master’s degree with relevant experience requirements
- Positions assigned to the Child Life Program: master’s degree with relevant experience
- All options require knowledge of social casework principles, client needs assessment, and applicable laws and policies
- Knowledge of social casework, client behavior, community resources, and applicable laws and regulations
- Ability to establish rapport, apply casework knowledge, plan and analyze, work with diverse populations, and maintain professional relationships
- Ability to input and retrieve data from computerized systems
- License: Valid California Driver’s License required at time of hire and throughout employment. County vehicles may be available but are not guaranteed. May be required to use personal vehicle with insurance information provided.
- Schedule: Mandatory on-call may include nights, holidays, and weekends.
