Job Title:
Parent Partner
The Position:
We are looking for a Parent Partner to provide active, hands‑on peer support to parents of youth/young adults receiving services at McKinley Children’s Center. Effective peer support should be friendly, helpful, accessible and flexible. Peer support may be delivered in individual or group settings at the agency, in family homes or in community environments. The role of the Parent Partner is to work collaboratively to increase family involvement within program areas while decreasing unintentional, programmatic, and institutional bias about parents.

- Must be the biological or adoptive parent of a youth/young adult with special needs
- Parent should have experienced level of care with their youth equivalent to the need
- Bilingual skills preferable
- Flexible hours consistent with the needs/availability of the clients
- Program assignment
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Maintains a non-judgmental attitude toward families
- Maintains required licenses and certifications to perform role
- Ability to learn and use mental health software (EXYM).
- Must pass pre-employment physical exam, TB and drug screening
- Ability to commute to various locations and provide in‑person support
- Ability to lift 10 pounds for filing
- DOJ, FBI, Child Abuse Index
- Insurability under Corporate Automobile Insurance
- Listening and communicating effectively to build positive relationships.
- Collaborating with others to ensure coordinated care.
- Gathering and summarizing information to identify strengths, resources, and personal values.
- Assisting individuals in identifying their goals and priorities.
- Detecting warning signs, communicating findings clearly, and routinely reassessing needs to provide ongoing support.
- Identifying recommended goals and services.
- Empowering individuals and their families to make informed decisions during the planning process.
- Supporting the development of personal care plans that align with individual goals and values.
- Coordinating and executing the plan of care through effective outreach and engagement.
- Maintaining a safe, therapeutic learning environment.
- Providing emotional and physical support to individuals, teaching and training necessary skills, and supporting problem‑solving and conflict resolution.
- Preventing and intervening in crises, while promoting health and wellness through organized group activities and individualized support.
