Summary

Sr. Recreation Leader is a part‑time position working under the general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator/Supervisor. The role brings fun and engaging activities to a diverse clientele of all ages, including the senior community. In a fast‑paced, energetic atmosphere, the leader delivers consistent quality guest experiences across community centers, after‑school programming, parks, gymnasiums, special events, and more. Duties include planning, developing, promoting, coordinating, and implementing a variety of recreation programs and activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities After school Programming
  • Monitors routine activities, assists with homework for K‑6th, and facilitates sports, games, story time, and social activities.
  • Works weekdays after school, all day during school breaks, and on minimum day dismissals.
Sporting Program
  • Plans, organizes, and leads sports programs including leagues, tournaments, clinics, and special events (e.g., basketball, soccer, flag football).
  • Develops and implements curricula for sports instruction, ensuring progression and skill development.
  • Promotes sports programs through outreach, marketing materials, and community events.
  • Officiates games and tournaments, adhering to league rules and regulations.
  • Ensures safe set‑up, use, and maintenance of sports equipment and facilities.
Program Preparation and Support
  • Maintains the security and proper functioning of assigned equipment and facilities.
  • Assists with program planning and organization.
  • Sets up and cleans up recreational areas and equipment for sports, banquets, parties, meetings, and classes.
  • Provides supervisors with necessary program and supply information.
  • Assists volunteers in leading recreational activities or assignments.
Participant Safety and Engagement
  • Monitors activities and enforces safety rules to maintain a safe and fun environment.
  • Maintains a safe environment for participants and staff.
  • Leads activities according to schedules and registration requirements.
  • Organizes, officiates, and instructs children’s activities (sports, games, crafts).
  • Taught fundamentals of play and sportsmanship.
  • Monitors spectators and participants at sporting and special events.
  • Keeps attendance records and scores at sporting events and other activities.
Customer Service and Information
  • Provides excellent customer service and public relations.
  • Answers questions and provides information about programs and events.
  • Answers phones, receives, and records program fees and facility deposits.
  • Guides patrons in activities, following schedules and registration requirements.
Equipment and Inventory Management
  • Receives, stores, and maintains equipment and supplies.
  • Performs general facility inspections and maintenance as assigned.
  • Operates necessary equipment for activities.
  • Ensures security of facilities and keys.
Professional Development
  • Attends and completes applicable online or in‑person training sessions and orientations.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn and take on new tasks.
Additional Notes
  • Regular and timely attendance is mandatory.
  • Scheduled work hours may include weekends, evenings, and holidays.
