Community Bus Operator

The Riverside Transit Agency is recruiting to fill openings for our Full Time Community Bus Operator position. This position will operate the Agency’s transit bus fleet of 40' or less and provide safe, dependable and courteous public transportation service for the citizens of the RTA service area.

While most Community Bus Operator assignments will be located in Hemet, please be advised that this may also involve assignments at our Riverside Division. Applicants must be available to work 7 days per week, including holidays and all shifts.

• Operate Agency transit and support vehicles in both revenue and non-revenue service
• Maintain an established schedule along a designated route
• Be available to operate Agency buses on pre-assigned shifts
• Be responsible for the safety of passengers
• Collect proper fares according to Agency tariffs
• Give transit information
• Collect patronage and revenue data as assigned
• Prepare report forms
• Report equipment defects or failures
• And other related tasks as assigned

The position will function under the general supervision of the Operations Manager and Assistant Operations Manager(s) and under the direct supervision of the Operations Supervisor(s).

• Stable work history
• Customer service experience preferred
• Minimum age of 18
• Excellent driving record
• Minimum 12 months of driving history
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Class B Permit/License with endorsements and a current medical certificate
• Must possess an accurate railroad-type watch, or an approved equivalent

• A current, valid, and non-restricted Class C Driver’s License is required. Additionally, a DMV Driver’s Record Report printout (issued not more than 30 days prior to date of application) must be provided with the application.
• Your established driving history must be clear of the following:
  • 1) Any suspensions within the past five (5) years
  • 2) May not have more than three (3) points within the past three (3) years
  • 3) No two (2) point violations within the past three (3) years
  • 4) No accidents that the applicant contributed to cause within three (3) years from the application date
  • 5) You have appeared in court as required

Candidates must provide proof of a Class B Permit with passenger and air brake endorsements, or a current Class A or B License with the proper endorsements. RTA will train new hires to obtain the required license.

All Community Bus Drivers are required to obtain and maintain a valid Class B Driver’s License, with the proper endorsements and a current medical certificate.

• Driving record review (pass/fail)
• Final ranking determined by the oral interview examination (100% weight)

Failure to provide a current driver’s record report (issued not more than 30 days prior to date of application) will disqualify your application.
