Overview
Dean Fluor is looking for a Critical Facilities Specialist (CFS) to join our operations team in the operations and maintenance of a mission critical government data center. The CFS is responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak efficiency. This involves continuous monitoring of high voltage electrical equipment, planned preventative maintenance, and emergency response.
The technician serves as an expert technical resource reporting to a critical facilities manager, interacting with government support personnel and vendors. They are expected to be the singular focal point for all mechanical facility operations within the data center.
- Remotely monitor electrical systems equipment performance.
- When abnormal operations are identified, walk down equipment, troubleshoot and identify corrective measures, repairs if possible or generate a corrective maintenance work order.
- Track and record the status of the operational system using applicable journals and control system tools.
- Identify and recommend changes to improve overall plant reliability, performance and output.
- Update electrical system control applications to maximize efficiency and revise operating parameters as needed to accommodate changes in facility operations or correct identified problems/inefficiencies.
- Perform routine operator rounds of facility equipment, monitoring operation and recording operating parameters on reading sheets.
- Record and report all faults, deficiencies, and unusual occurrences; respond to emergency situations and perform any task necessary for the protection of occupants and the facility.
- Perform minor preventative maintenance on facility support equipment (e.g. air compressors, electronic door locks, pumps, fences, gates, humidifiers, air conditioning units).
- Record all values in a computerized maintenance management system, accurately logging plant condition, time spent on a job, equipment condition, and additional repairs if needed.
- Perform other duties as requested.
- Must be able to work as needed, including shift work (nights, weekends, holidays) and overtime.
- Minimum high school diploma or GED with at least five (5) years of experience in facilities maintenance, thorough understanding of electrical distribution systems, program logic controls, generators, and life safety systems, including one (1) year concurrent related experience in data center or mission‑critical environments.
- Ability to read and comprehend work orders, equipment/tool manuals, safety manuals, and other written material relevant to the job.
- Ability to enter basic information into computerized maintenance and time‑keeping databases.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, on ladders, and lift equipment over 6 feet above the ground.
- Must carry a two‑way radio when on duty for prompt emergency response.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from the job site.
- Must comply with all city, state, and federal licensing and certification requirements.
- Must comply with all company policies and procedures and adhere to company standards.
- Must be a team player committed to working in a quality environment.
- Must possess excellent verbal, written, multi‑tasking, and presentation skills in English.
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload with minimal supervision.
- Must perform other miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested.
- Must be able to achieve and maintain security clearance.
- AS/BS degree in electrical engineering or related field.
- Operational experience in a control room environment.
- Programmer knowledge of PLC and SCADA control and software logic.
- Position may require extensive background screening to meet current or future network and/or government contract needs. Applicants and employees may be subject to specific background eligibility requirements.
- Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period.
- Relocate a 12‑foot stepladder without assistance.
- Work at various heights up to 60 feet and climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and all types of ladders.
- Walk, climb, lift, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, and reach overhead on a routine basis.
- Possess good vision (may be corrected) and ability to see in color; ability to hear and communicate in English.
- May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
- Tell when something is wrong or likely to go wrong. Recognize the problem but does not involve solving it.
- Apply general rules to specific problems to produce sound conclusions.
- Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions, including finding relationships among seemingly unrelated events.
