Overview

Exciting career opportunity for a UPS Battery Technician to join one of the region's fastest growing companies. Site Point of Contact (POC) and Subject Matter Expert for UPS systems and batteries, scheduling and execution of preventive and predictive maintenance, corrective maintenance and warranty work.

• Inspects power electronic systems and associated controls, including UPS systems, static transfer switches, and their controls for initial, in-process, visual condition, final, maintenance operational checks and failure analysis.
• Certifies systems and components meet quality standards set by applicable codes and specifications.
• Reviews system drawings and specifications for accuracy, determines maintenance and inspection requirements, resolves discrepancies, and updates records.
• Provides technical assistance to clients and engineers, participates in inspections, maintenance assistance, and training of site personnel, and logs work in Maximo.
• Organizes resources and assists other Battery Technicians with maintenance, installation, and inspection of vented wet‑cell and VRLA batteries and related components.
• Inspects battery charging and monitoring equipment to ensure proper operation.
• Maintains operating service records for batteries.
• Recommends additional maintenance or battery replacement based on preventive findings.
• May be assigned training or emergency duties as required.

• Inspects, installs, cleans batteries and terminals; takes voltage, resistance and specific gravity readings.
• Fills batteries with water, recharges, removes and replaces batteries, installs inter‑cell connecting straps.
• Performs discharge tests on battery strings and single‑cell charges.
• Maintains routine battery service records and logs.
• Participates in training of Battery Technicians.

• Associate’s Degree in Electronics or related field, or High School Diploma/GED with at least two years’ UPS maintenance experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Proficiency reading and interpreting complex technical instructions, plans, blueprints and schematic diagrams.
• Strong working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, maintenance practices, supply procedures and quality control procedures.
• Experience with laptops, software packages and electronic communication devices.
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate complex electrical systems, perform damage assessments, estimate maintenance, parts and manpower requirements, diagnose malfunctions and employ testing and inspection techniques.

• AA/BS degree in Electrical and/or Electronics, or a Journeyman Electrical license with applicable experience or OEM/Military training.

• Various Manufacturer Maintenance Courses.
• Power Quality Training Course/Certification.

• Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period.
• Relocates a 12‑foot stepladder without assistance.
• Works at heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
• Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
• Has good vision (corrected if necessary), can see in color, and hears and communicates in English.
• Can use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
• Recognizes impending problems, applies general rules to specific problems to produce sensible solutions, combines information to form conclusions, and perceives details at close range.
