Instructional Faculty Position
Instructional faculty has the important responsibility of creating an innovative learning environment both inside and outside the classroom to inspire success and excellence in student learning. Instructional faculty members are also expected to adhere to professional standards and ethics.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Teach various Mathematics and related courses, programs, labs, etc.
- Provide an outcomes-based and interdisciplinary-focused curriculum.
- Instructional competency including knowledge of Mathematics and Statistics well as an ability to evaluate student progress.
- Be student-focused.
- Works with CWC's Admissions Department to recruit students.
- Participate in community outreach efforts as needed or desired, e.g., Math Contest.
- Use innovative pedagogies and emerging technology to enhance learning.
- Promote a collaborative learning environment that extends beyond the traditional classroom.
- Assist students with degree planning and conduct regularly scheduled advisement sessions to discuss progress toward achieving learning outcomes.
- Assist in department and program budget development and compliance.
- Actively participate in annual and four-year academic program review(s) including assessment of student learning at the course, program and institution levels.
- Revise curriculum offerings as needed.
- Works with CWC BOCHES and high school Mathematics and Statistics teachers to offer concurrent and/or dual credit courses within the CWC service area.
- Participates in college and university articulation conferences as required.
- Attends department, division, and committee meetings.
- Participation in semiannual CWC in-service.
- Share student information with other faculty and counselors when deemed appropriate, including progress reports, attendance records, etc.
- Provide a workload schedule showing instructional and office hours.
- Represents division on college committees as required.
- Interact and exchange information within and beyond the department.
- Performs other reasonable or related duties as directed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Master's degree in Mathematics from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education. Candidates with a Master's degree in Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or Mathematics Education with significant coursework in Mathematics would also be considered.
Experience
- Two years of directly related experience, preferably in a higher education setting.
Licenses/Certifications
- None required.
Equivalency Statement
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Desired Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Mathematics or related field.
- Experience with teaching upper-level math courses.
- Two years teaching mathematics or a closely related field at the community college level.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of discipline taught.
- Knowledge and understanding of curriculum development and assessment.
- Knowledge of various instructional pedagogies and technologies that enhance the attainment of student learning outcomes.
- Commitment to exploring nontraditional approaches to education in a comprehensive community college atmosphere.
- Obtain knowledge of CWC policies, procedures, and practices.
- Proficiency in utilizing personal computer software, particularly Microsoft and Google applications, with a strong grasp of their functionalities and demonstrated skills.
- Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to relate to a broad range of students.
- Ability to promote a positive atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation both with the college and the community.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion within established deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and to effectively identify and resolve problems
- Ability to teach using technology in the classroom.
- Ability to maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and supervisors.
