Early Childhood Special Education Teacher

JOB SUMMARY:

The Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Teacher Aide supports preschool-aged children with disabilities by assisting teachers with instruction, managing behaviors, and providing personal care to implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals. They foster a safe, positive environment for social, emotional, and physical development, often working with children with varied developmental delays.

ED UCATION AND

CERTIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or enrollment in a Bachelor’s program preferred.
  • Current CPR certification through AHA or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Incumbent will be required to complete a training plan of 25 hours of direct supervised client contact; and 25 hours of direct observational training in the following within 6 months of hire:
  • Overview of IEPs, Evaluation Tools, and parent communication
  • Ethical and legal responsibilities;
  • Observing and data collection specific to the site population; and
  • Record Keeping

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Under ECSE supervision, provide special education services to students with disabilities.
Maintain a therapy schedule with individual students/groups of students and assist with all clerical work.
Monitor and report student problems, performance, and progress to the supervising ECSE.
Provide accurate documentation of therapy sessions/results.
  • Performs support duties such as preparing materials, keeping records, maintaining supplies, and scheduling activities.
Adopt/adapt a data collection system for the highest priority objectives for each student.
  • Select and/or prepare special education instructional materials.
  • Work with staff to implement child find activities.
  • Assist with child screenings and assessments.
  • Conduct in-service training sessions and family and community education programs.
  • Prepare charts, graphs, and other visual displays to communicate the client’s performance information.
Adhere to established policies, procedures, and regulations of the facility and the State of Wyoming.
  • Travel within Fremont County is required.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES :

SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally update skills to meet the changing job conditions. Specific skills-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices, applying assessment instruments, operating equipment used in early childhood special education, operating standard office equipment, including pertinent software applications, and preparing and maintaining accurate records.

A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are required.

KNOWLEDGE is required of the principles of early childhood special education; health standards and hazards; safety practices and procedures; concepts of grammar and punctuation; and pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; ability to read technical information; compose a variety of documents and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: age-appropriate activities;

stages of child development; student behavior management skills; adaptive equipment; and special education models, practices and theories.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings and or events; gather, collate and or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is required to work with a diverse group of individuals and/or groups;

work with a variety of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Problem-solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem-solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem-solving with equipment is moderate.…
