Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Behavioral Science, or related field
  • Wyoming PTSB certification in Special Education (required)
  • Training and/or experience in behavior intervention, crisis prevention/intervention (CPI), or similar preferred
Position Summary

To provide specialized instructional and behavioral services to students with disabilities, with a primary focus on supporting students with significant behavioral needs, in accordance with the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP). The position emphasizes behavior intervention, social-emotional development, and creating structured learning environments that promote student success.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Be familiar with and abide by school district policies and stay current on changes
  • Establish and foster cooperative working relationships with staff and District personnel.
  • Exercise mature and professional judgment in working with students exhibiting a range of behavioral and academic needs.
  • Participate in professional development with an emphasis on behavior intervention and instructional strategies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information regarding colleagues, students, and parents
  • Maintain current PTSB certification.
  • Implement and monitor individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) aligned with student IEPs
  • Conduct functional behavior observations and contribute to Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs)
  • Provide direct instruction in social skills, self-regulation, and replacement behaviors.
  • Utilize evidence-based behavior strategies to support student engagement and reduce maladaptive behaviors.
  • Teach District standards while adapting instruction to meet both academic and behavioral needs.
  • Plan and implement instruction that integrates behavior supports, clear expectations, and structured routines
  • Evaluate both academic and behavioral progress and adjust supports accordingly
  • Provide for students' safety at all times, particularly those with intensive behavioral needs.
  • Respond to and manage behavioral crises using approved de-escalation and intervention techniques in accordance with District protocols.
  • Maintain a structured, predictable classroom environment designed to prevent behavioral escalation.
  • Support a school climate that promotes appropriate student behavior and positive interactions.
  • Actively participate in PLCs and problem-solving teams
  • Utilize instructional materials and technology effectively for both instruction and data tracking
  • Collect, analyze, and maintain detailed behavioral and academic data to inform IEP goals and interventions
  • Diagnose and evaluate student needs, including behavioral, social-emotional, and academic areas
  • Develop and implement measurable IEP goals related to behavior and social-emotional skills
  • Plan and implement programs aligned with both curriculum and IEP requirements
  • Monitor and communicate student progress (academic and behavioral) with staff, parents, and team members
  • Complete evaluations and documentation in a timely and professional manner
  • Collaborate closely with general education teachers, behavior staff, counselors, and related service providers to ensure consistency of behavior supports across settings
  • Follow schedules, attend meetings, and maintain professionalism
  • Maintain confidentiality per all regulations

  • Applies assessment tools for both academic achievement and behavioral analysis
  • Prepares and maintains accurate academic and behavioral records
  • Possesses strong knowledge of behavior intervention strategies, Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP)
  • Skilled in de-escalation, crisis response, and proactive behavior support techniques
  • Knowledgeable in applicable laws, policies, and regulations related to special education and student behavior
  • Demonstrates understanding of child development, including social-emotional and behavioral development
  • Schedules and manages activities, meetings, and interventions
  • Works with diverse individuals and complex student needs
  • Establishes and maintains constructive relationships
  • Adapts to changing priorities, particularly in response to student behavior needs
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Exhibits tact, patience, and emotional control in high-stress situations
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Works independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrates strong organization, multitasking, and time management skills

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as policies and regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine correspondence.
