JOB TITLE: Arapaho Language Teacher

DEPARTMENT:Arapaho Language Immersion

SUPERVISED BY:Head Teacher

SALARY: D.O.E

JOB STATUS: Regular, Full Time/Non-Exempt

The Arapaho Language Teacher position is responsible for assisting the Director with the development and implementation of a quality preschool language immersion education program. This position requires the Arapaho language to be spoken exclusively at all times to the children.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervise and coach all staff at the designated location
  • Ensure that only the Arapaho language is spoken to the children attending the program
  • Interact with children throughout the day through the Arapaho language
  • Carry out all classroom activities in accordance with curriculum adapted for the immersion program
  • Guide children in a positive manner
  • Present audio, visual aids, and other materials to the children
  • Help idle children find an activity
  • Help children with their activity
  • Encourage children to sit and behave properly
  • Assist, if necessary, in serving lunch and snacks to the children
  • If no classroom aide is present, help children wash hands and take care of toilet needs
  • Keep the room orderly, clean, and safe
  • Plan, coordinate, implement, and chaperone field trips, outings, and nature walks in conjunction with curriculum activities
  • Be responsible for the safety and physical well-being of the children at all times
  • Keep weekly records for each child’s language development on the “Language Development Record Sheet”
  • Know the procedures to follow in case of an emergency
  • Complete evaluation forms for each student and keep child’s file updated
  • Attend and participate in all in-services, staff meetings, and parent council meetings
  • Offer input to Director and/or Curriculum Materials Developer regarding activities and materials for the classroom
  • Other duties as assigned to maintain and enhance the operation of the department.

  • Ability to be a self-starter, complete tasks in a timely manner, and work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to use professional phone etiquette, attitude, and appearance.
  • Ability to efficiently apply computer technology, software, and office equipment.
  • Ability to understand and execute complex written and oral instructions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be fluent in the Arapaho Language
  • Must be knowledgeable in the Arapaho Culture
  • Must be knowledgeable of how children acquire language
  • Knowledge of early childhood development preferred
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible for coverage under WRFCHC auto insurance policy.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check under the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act (P.L.101-630).
  • Current BLS Certification or be able to obtain it within 60 days of hire.
  • All WRFCHC staff members must have proof of measles immunity on file with employee health. This is detailed in policy 3.2.06 Employee Immunization Program. Send proof of two (2) MMR vaccinations or serologic evidence of immunity.
WORKING CONDITIONS:

Primarily school-based setting.

  • Potential for exposure to illnesses found in a school-based setting.
  • Considerable standing, sitting, or walking.
  • Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, and crouching.
  • Occasional Lifting up to 50lbs.
