SUMMARY
Performs a wide variety of semi-skilled and complex skilled work in the operation of equipment, machinery and tools used in collection and disposal of solid waste.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESOther duties may be assigned.
- Operates all equipment such as sanitation trucks, large front-end loader, backhoe, and other equipment used in collection and disposal of solid waste.
- Responds to emergency calls as required.
- Checks and services assigned equipment; performs routine maintenance and emergency repairs; reports mechanical problems for shop repair.
- Trains less experienced personnel in the care of and operation of assigned equipment.
- Assists other departments as directed.
- Performs any one of the duties typical of a laborer position.
Exercises supervision over personnel as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVEDWorks under general supervision of a working foreman.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED); and three years of experience as or in a position equivalent to Sanitation Operator I; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITYAbility to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESWorking knowledge of equipment operating principles and practices; skill in the operation of assigned equipment; ability to perform minor maintenance functions; ability to learn and follow standard safety practices and procedures common to equipment operation.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSMust possess a valid Wyoming Commercial Driver's License of the required status; ability to be insured under the City's municipal automobile insurance coverage; must be at least 18 years of age.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
