The secondary teacher (grades 6-12) is responsible for the instruction of designated content area(s)/course(s) in a classroom setting within a secondary school. District expectations include demonstrating regular and predictable attention to work, supporting the district's vision, mission, goals, and strategic plan, engaging in civility, respect, and professionalism, maintaining professional knowledge and skills necessary to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of their positions.

Responsibilities include designing and implementing appropriate instruction of content area(s)/course(s) assigned in accordance with state standards, district curriculum, and students' needs. Creating a positive educational climate for students to learn in an atmosphere of respect and rapport. Creating and delivering relevant and rigorous lessons that maximize student engagement and achievement. Utilizing a variety of teaching practices and methodologies that reflect diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds in order to meet the individual needs of students.

Observing and evaluating student performance and mastery of standards, monitoring student assessment data, and maintaining student grades and attendance. Managing student behavior in the classroom by utilizing effective classroom management strategies and invoking appropriate disciplinary procedures. Communicating with parents and school/district personnel regarding student progress and encouraging parental involvement. Taking all responsible precautions to provide for the health and safety of students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.

Appropriately maintaining and securing confidential records, inquiries, and data. Maintaining appropriate certifications and professional development hours as required. Performing any other duties as assigned.

Certificates/licenses/registrations:
Florida professional educator certificate preferred. Eligibility for Florida temporary certificate required. Language skills: reads, analyzes, and interprets all kinds of documents. Responds to inquiries or complaints from employees, regulatory agencies, or community. Writes speeches and effectively presents to managers, the public, and school board. Mathematical skills: works with math concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry.

Applies concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning ability: solves practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Computer skills: knowledge of relevant and current computer software programs. Physical demands include physical activities such as standing, walking, sitting, handling, keyboarding, talking, and hearing.

Lifting demands up to 10 pounds. Reaching activities with both dominant and non-dominant hand; overhead. Environmental conditions include noise intensity of 3, moderate.
