Job Description- Oversees the system for identification and analysis of loss or injury exposure, maintaining both mandatory and voluntary incident reporting systems.
- Provides statistical analysis on areas of risk to identify, evaluate, eliminate, or reduce incidents in high‑risk areas.
- Coordinates risk education classes for new orienteers and provides continuing education on an annual and as‑needed basis.
- Serves as a conduit of information on legal questions and an advisory resource in risk matters for clinical staff.
- Facilitates root cause analysis (RCA) projects for issues/errors with life‑threatening potential or serious injury/death.
- Reviews records and documentation on potentially compensable events and reports liability claims to administration and corporate risk management.
- Assures proper and timely investigation of accidents and incidents, including gathering information and sequestering equipment.
- Coordinates legal processes for scheduling statements, depositions, and trial appearances in response to subpoenas.
- Facilitates the patient grievance process, ensuring grievances are investigated and directing inquiries to appropriate directors and managers.
- Competent in use of electronic medical record software.
- A thorough understanding and continuing education of the regulatory environment including HIPAA Privacy Rules and Regulations.
- Quick critical thinking and analytical skills for unassisted problem solving and conducting thorough, accurate compliance reviews and/or audits.
- Personable and approachable to maintain good interpersonal relationships.
- Ability to consistently interact with others in ways that enhance understanding, respect, cooperation, and problem‑solving. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and a collaborative style for interaction with a broad spectrum of healthcare disciplines.
- Ability to handle complex situations/issues in a sensitive environment, managing potentially volatile interactions objectively and following through with all projects on time.
- Detail‑oriented, motivated, organized, and able to function independently. Capable of working quickly under pressure, meeting frequent deadlines, and managing competing priorities.
- Effective public speaking and teaching skills.
- Flexible hours depending on need.
- Working clinical knowledge of hospital topics related to accreditation, regulatory compliance, etc.
- Demonstrates strong leadership, organizational skills, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to provide conflict resolution and fair negotiation skills when dealing with customers.
- Proficient in policy development and initiates programs and processes to ensure patient safety through risk/harm program reduction.
- Proficiency in preparing and presenting professional presentations.
- Advanced knowledge of communication skills to effectively investigate risk concerns.
- Bachelor's in Marketing, Business, or related field [Required]
- Master's [Preferred]
- 3+ years in risk management or related management experience [Required]
An equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of the stated degree requirement:
- Bachelors degree and 3+ years of experience OR
- Associates degree and 5+ years of experience OR
- High School Grad or Equivalent and 7+ years of experience.
- Driver's License (DL) [Required]
- Registered Nurse (RN) [Preferred]
- Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) [Preferred]
