Lead Robotics Instructor (FIRST LEGO League Coach)STEM Space is seeking a Lead Robotics Instructor to serve as the Lead Coach for a FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Challenge team during the 2026 season.
The Lead Instructor will serve as the primary coach and onsite leader, guiding students through all aspects of the FIRST LEGO League experience, including robot design, programming, engineering, teamwork, and the Innovation Project. This individual will lead weekly team meetings, mentor students, coordinate assisting volunteers, and represent STEM Space throughout the season.
This role is ideal for educators, college students, engineering or computer science students, FIRST alumni, and STEM professionals who are passionate about youth mentorship and robotics education.
Responsibilities- Serve as the Lead Coach for a FIRST LEGO League Challenge team.
- Plan and lead weekly team meetings.
- Teach robotics, engineering, programming, and problem‑solving skills using the LEGO SPIKE Prime platform.
- Guide students through robot design, building, testing, programming, and match strategy.
- Mentor students as they develop and present their Innovation Project.
- Foster teamwork, Gracious Professionalism, and Core Values.
- Coordinate and support assistant coaches and volunteers.
- Communicate regularly with STEM Space leadership regarding team progress and program needs.
- Represent STEM Space professionally with students, families, volunteers, and FIRST event staff.
- Coach the team during the official FIRST LEGO League competition.
- Assist with setup, organization, equipment management, and program operations.
- Ensure a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
- Experience with FIRST LEGO League (FLL) preferred.
- Experience with FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC), FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), VEX Robotics, or similar robotics programs is also valued.
- Experience working with children.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to lead a small group independently.
- Background in engineering, computer science, robotics, education, or a related STEM field is a plus.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Reliable, professional, and comfortable working with youth.
- Available for weekly Saturday meetings throughout the FLL season.
- Able to attend the official FIRST LEGO League competition.
- Background check may be required.
- $50–$70 per weekly meeting
