Role Overview

Saudi Gold Refinery (SGR) is seeking a Mining Superintendent in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to lead daily extraction and exploration activities for our gold mining assets. This role ensures a consistent supply of high‑quality ore to our refining facilities while adhering to strict safety and environmental standards. The successful candidate will manage drilling, blasting, and haulage operations in compliance with Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources regulations.

The Mining Superintendent will report directly to the Mine Manager and will play a key role in optimizing production efficiency and cost control. This position requires a leader who can bridge technical mining expertise with practical workforce management in a demanding industrial setting.

Key Responsibilities

The Mining Superintendent will be responsible for the following key areas of operation and leadership.

Production Management

The role executes the monthly mine plan by coordinating drilling and blasting activities to meet ore tonnage and grade targets. This involves monitoring daily metrics and resolving operational bottlenecks to ensure continuous feed to the refinery.

Safety Compliance

This position enforces strict adherence to permit‑to‑work systems and lockout/tagout procedures across all mining activities. The superintendent conducts regular safety audits to ensure compliance with HSE policies and Saudi labor laws.

The superintendent manages a diverse workforce of shift supervisors and equipment operators across rotating shifts. Responsibilities include roster planning, performance evaluation, and ensuring all staff maintain valid technical certifications.

Cost Control

This role controls the operational budget for mining consumables such as explosives and fuel by tracking usage against benchmarks. The incumbent identifies cost‑saving opportunities without compromising safety or production quality.

Technical Optimization

The position collaborates with geologists to optimize blast designs and minimize ore dilution during excavation. This ensures that the material sent to the refinery meets the required chemical and physical specifications.

Contractor Oversight

This role oversees third‑party contractors providing drilling and earthmoving services to ensure they meet contractual obligations. The superintendent validates work completion and approves invoices based on verified performance data.

Maintenance Coordination

The superintendent coordinates with the maintenance department to schedule preventive repairs for heavy mining equipment. This proactive approach minimizes unplanned downtime and extends the lifecycle of critical assets.

This position serves as the primary point of contact for Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources inspectors during site visits. The incumbent ensures all mining activities remain within the bounds of the granted exploration and extraction licenses.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in Mining Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • At least ten years of progressive experience in open‑pit mining with five years in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated expertise in drilling and blasting operations within hard rock gold deposits.
  • In‑depth knowledge of Saudi mining laws and environmental regulations enforced by MIM.
  • Proven ability to manage large teams of blue‑collar workers and external contractors.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in mine planning software and production data analysis.
