Linguistic Editor is responsible for reviewing, editing, and refining written content to ensure accuracy, clarity, consistency, and readability. The role focuses on language quality, grammar, spelling, punctuation, terminology, tone, and style while preserving the intended meaning and voice of the original content.
Key Responsibilities
- Review manuscripts, reports, guides, policies, and other written materials for structure, organization, and logical flow.
- Edit content to improve clarity, readability, tone, style, and consistency while maintaining the author's original intent and voice.
- Strengthen narrative flow, transitions, arguments, and overall reader engagement where appropriate.
- Correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, word choice, and formatting errors.
- Ensure consistency in terminology, abbreviations, formatting, references, numbering, and document structure.
- Verify factual consistency, cross-references, citations, and continuity throughout the document.
- Ensure compliance with organizational writing standards, branding, and applicable editorial or publishing guidelines.
- Collaborate with authors, subject matter experts, designers, and reviewers to resolve editorial issues and improve document quality.
- Provide constructive editorial feedback and recommendations to enhance content effectiveness.
- Review tables, figures, appendices, captions, and supporting materials for consistency and accuracy.
- Prepare documents for publication by ensuring they are complete, professionally formatted, and free from editorial errors.
- Maintain version control and accurately track revisions throughout the editorial process.
- Manage multiple editing assignments while meeting project deadlines.
- Maintain confidentiality of unpublished materials and proprietary information.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Technical Writing, Publishing, Linguistics, Literature, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 - 10 of professional editing, copyediting, or technical writing experience.
- Demonstrated experience editing professional publications such as reports, manuals, standards, guidance documents, policies, or books.
- Excellent command of written English with exceptional grammar, punctuation, and proofreading skills.
- Strong knowledge of editorial style guides (e.g., APA, Chicago Manual of Style, MLA, or organizational style guides).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word (Track Changes), Adobe Acrobat, and collaborative document review tools.
