JobPurpose
The Director of Estate and Facility Management is responsible for the integrity, safety, and seamless operation of the museum’s physical environment. The role encompasses building services, technical systems, environmental controls, and collaboration with the Director of Security to ensure a secure, efficient, and welcoming space for visitors, staff, and collections. This position is vital to the psychological and operational wellbeing of the institution, upholding the museum’s standards of care, trust, and excellence through immaculate facility upkeep.
The successful candidate will have deep experience in complex facility operations, a strong commitment to sustainability, and a proactive mindset for both strategic planning and daily problem‑solving.
- Align facilities strategies with museum’s broader mission and growth plans.
- Contribute to the museum’s long‑term physical infrastructure and sustainability goals.
- Develop, manage, and monitor the Facility Management budget in collaboration with the Finance Department.
- Establish and enforce health, safety, and environmental protection protocols.
- Implement operational standards and maintenance schedules in accordance with museum regulations.
- Oversee and manage the daily operations of the museum's facilities, ensuring optimal functionality, safety, and aesthetics.
- Supervise the development, implementation, and monitoring of budgetary expenditures related to facilities management, ensuring alignment with overall organizational financial objectives.
- Ensure the conduction of regular assessments of the museum's infrastructure and systems to identify areas for maintenance, improvement, and sustainable practices.
- Collaborate with curatorial, education, and visitor services teams to optimize space usage for exhibitions, events, and educational programs.
- Lead and mentor a dedicated facilities team, promoting professional development and adherence to best practices in facilities management.
- Serve as the primary contact for all facilities‑related inquiries, resolving issues promptly and maintaining a high level of customer service.
- Coordinate with external contractors and service providers for specialized maintenance and repair projects, ensuring quality and compliance with institutional standards.
- Lead the development and enforcement of health, safety, and environmental policies to ensure a safe and compliant working environment for staff and patrons.
- Innovate and implement strategies to improve energy efficiency and sustainability within the museum’s facilities operations.
- Oversee the preparation of detailed reports and presentations for senior management and board meetings regarding facilities performance metrics, risks, and strategic recommendations.
- Liaise with internal teams to optimize space for exhibitions and events.
- Manage vendor relationships and coordinate with contractors for specialized services.

- Manage and support team members in performing their tasks in line with established policies and procedures.
- Guide, mentor, and develop the Estate & Facility Management teams to ensure continuous growth and achievement of functional objectives.
