Bus Operations Expert

Role and Responsibilities

• Oversee start of operations through all the phases of the Bus and ITS Contractors activities to verify that all contractual requirements are fully met.
• Responsible for the day‑to‑day delivery of passenger services in accordance with the KPI Regime and best market practices.
• Ensure safety and excellence are at the heart of all services.
• Shall be responsible for the start of operations of new service stations and depots, including all required inspections as per the agreed SOPs.
• Lead the operations on a 24/7 basis to resolve incidents, accidents and emergencies that may occur on the Bus Project.
• Lead the development of the operations and maintenance manual.
• Review and manage the Bus Operator monthly and annual performance reports.
• Generate, review and manage PMS monthly and annual performance reports.
• Supervise the Operations Control Centre bus operations and coordinate special situations such as crisis coordination and disaster recovery.
• Produce reports for the PMS team to be presented to the client on punctuality, kilometres and all required KPI reports.
• Compare operational data from ITS systems and inspection status before preparing reports for the client.
• Play an integral role in the development of base optimisation and future expansion plans, including routes, fleet allocation and depot strategies.
• Develop crisis‑management procedures.
• Provide advice and support to the client’s senior management or their representation until an incident is brought under control.
• Support the Senior Manager in producing reports on incidents and maintaining them for further investigation as required.
• Coordinate mitigations on incidents with specialists and third parties, following them up to ensure no recurrence.
• Monitor the operations contractor to ensure effective management of inventory, procurement, maintenance and replacement of operational equipment, process optimisation, oversight of the operations team and liaison with external stakeholders.

• 10 years experience in bus operations either in:
  • Operational experience in a bus operating company
  • Client organisation managing a bus operator
  • Consultant team managing a bus operator
• Contract management in a public transport environment.
• Prior experience dealing with multiple contractors and their performance against KPI regime.
• Experience dealing with operating procedures, instructions and code of conduct handbooks.
• Experience dealing with timetables and materials related to successful and smooth operation of the transportation system.

Must be prepared to be available on a call‑out basis should an incident occur outside of normal operational hours. The maximum response time to a call‑out will be 30 minutes. Must have exposure dealing with investigations and mitigations on incidents and be comfortable working with third parties (Police, Civil Defence, security agencies, etc.). Prior experience dealing with OEMs, manufacturers and independent consultants/accident investigative agencies is required.
