Job Overview

Contracts Director - FIDIC Management in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia is a senior Civil Engineering opportunity responsible for directing portfolio‑wide contract administration, claims management, commercial governance, project controls coordination, and document control. The role is to support the FIDIC Engineer across major infrastructure, mixed‑use development, and construction packages within the Master Development Unit Projects portfolio. The position will establish consistent contractual governance across design and construction contracts while protecting the client’s commercial and legal interests.

The successful candidate will oversee variations, claims, payments, extensions of time, contractual notices, risk management, final accounts, and contract close‑out under FIDIC Red, Yellow, and Silver Book arrangements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the portfolio contracts management strategy.
  • Establish governance procedures, approval routes, templates, controls, and reporting standards.
  • Ensure consistent administration of FIDIC Red Book, Yellow Book, and Silver Book contracts.
  • Interpret client‑specific conditions, bespoke amendments, employer requirements, and contractual obligations.
  • Provide strategic contractual advice to the client, Delivery Partner leadership, and FIDIC Engineer.
  • Lead contract administration throughout design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and close‑out.
  • Review and endorse contractual notices, instructions, determinations, certifications, amendments, and correspondence.
  • Ensure employer and contractor obligations are identified, assigned, monitored, and enforced.
  • Maintain contractual compliance across multiple projects, work packages, consultants, and contractors.
  • Oversee the assessment and administration of variations and change orders.
  • Review contractual entitlement, scope changes, time implications, cost impacts, and supporting records.
  • Lead the identification, assessment, defence, negotiation, and resolution of contractor claims.
  • Identify and pursue employer entitlements where contractually justified.
  • Direct the preparation of contractual position papers and commercial recommendations.
  • Oversee delay, disruption, concurrency, and extension‑of‑time assessments.
  • Direct quantum evaluations and verify the adequacy of supporting commercial evidence.
  • Advise on acceleration, mitigation, liquidated damages, prolongation, and schedule‑related contractual matters.
  • Coordinate claims strategy with legal, commercial, project controls, and technical teams.
  • Oversee payment certification and progress valuation processes.
  • Confirm that interim payments are supported by verified progress and contractual entitlement.
  • Implement safeguards against over payment, duplicate recovery, unsupported claims, and unauthorized commitments.
  • Review final accounts, settlement proposals, release documentation, and contract close‑out requirements.
  • Lead contractual and commercial risk management across the portfolio.
  • Establish and maintain the portfolio‑level contracts risk register.
  • Identify exposure related to scope, time, cost, performance, interfaces, and contractor default.
  • Recommend mitigation strategies, contingency actions, and escalation measures.
  • Align contractual information with project schedules, cost reports, risk registers, and change logs.
  • Work closely with Project Controls and Commercial teams on forecasts, claims exposure, and contractual milestones.
  • Ensure schedule and cost information supports contractual determinations and negotiations.
  • Coordinate with Document Control to maintain complete, accurate, and traceable contract records.
  • Ensure notices, submissions, approvals, instructions, and determinations are issued within contractual timescales.
  • Act as the senior contact for contractual and commercial matters with clients, contractors, consultants, and stakeholders.
