- The Staff Nurse is responsible for providing clinical care to a defined group of patients and ensuring the maintenance of high standards of patient care within the unit during their span of duty. The post holder is responsible for assessment of care needs of patients, planning programmes of care, implementation and evaluation of these programmes without direct supervision.
- The Staff Nurse will be working independently/autonomously and at times without direct supervision, accountable for their own professional practice. Ensuring the safety and well being of patients, and always working in a manner that promotes the patients privacy, dignity and cultural beliefs.
- This includes prioritising the care needs of patients and appropriately allocating staff maintaining an awareness of the progress of each patients’ care.
- Responsible for the implementation and delivery of age appropriate patient care in the assigned area of practice congruent with the Mission, Vision and Values of Hospital. Ensuring adherence to the Professional Code of Conduct and Scope of Practice of the Ministry of Health Saudia Arabia.
- Working in conjunction with the Charge Nurse, this position plays a crucial role in delivering day-to-day levels of excellence in service provision of care across the Wards and Departments.
- During some periods you will have management responsibility for being in-charge of the Wards/Department. This will involve supervising junior members of staff. In the event of this you will be required to monitor and review staff still mix in accordance with patient dependency and acuity, utilize available information to align staffing and workload, and communicate with Senior Nursing staff as required.
- The post holder will be a key member in relation to the development of practice service standards ensuring they are consistently met.
- Acting as a role model, delivering high clinical and operational performance standards, by working effectively as part of the team.
- Facilitates effective patient flow, utilizing bed capacity and staffing resources appropriately. Communicates with all unit(s) / departments as appropriate, to maximise efficiency and to expedite the admission, transfer and discharge process.
- Collaborates with personnel from non-nursing departments/disciplines regarding issues that may negatively impact patient care; facilitate solutions as needed.
- Provides leadership in critical thinking, conflict management and problem solving.
- Demonstrate skills and competencies in continual assessment of planning, implementing and evaluating patient care.
- Performs nursing interventions/procedures in accordance with established standards of care, policies and procedures. This may involve assisting physicians undertaking diagnostic or therapeutic interventions.
- Identifies complications and deviations from the norm and takes appropriate action.
- Maintains accurate and thorough documentation and communication following Identify, Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation (ISBAR) principles.
- Completes nursing documentation timely and accurately, ensuring that quality standards of nursing documentation are maintained according to Hospital policy.
- Maintains required nursing competencies and competency in the use of all medical equipment including but not limited to, materials necessary for the resuscitation and stabilization of patients.
- Safely administer medication according to Hospital policy. Document medication administration accurately, according to protocols. Understands actions of medication and contraindications, evaluates patient’s response, identifies side effects and initiates appropriate action.
- Understand and able to explain the nursing department’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- To participate in Department/Hospital-wide quality improvement initiatives including implementation and evaluation of action plans and quality improvement projects.
- To work with the Charge Nurse in ensuring safe nursing and clinical practice and that Hospital follows evidence based International practice and accreditation standards.
