Director of Nursing

The Director of Nursing is responsible and accountable for managing the Nursing Department and ensuring that superior quality of nursing services are provided to patients in a timely, efficient and cost effective manner.

• Contribute to the achievement of the strategic objectives of the sector through performing own responsibilities and managing direct reports performance
• Set the department’s goals and objectives and ensure the cascading of such to reporting sections, and guide their achievement
• Contribute to the development of the sector’s policies, procedures and processes through providing input as advised by the direct supervisor
• Provide direction and advice to the direct reports in performing their delegated responsibilities
• Ensure the ongoing development of the department’s employees, and assure the developmental activities of direct reports
• Oversee the overall performance of direct reports and ensure KPIs are well communicated and monitored
• Ensure effective identification, allocation and utilization of the division’s resources

• The Nursing Director is considered a member of the hospital leadership and is essential in achieving high quality patient care.
• Responsible and accountable for the standard of nursing care in collaboration with the Medical Director and Quality Director.
• Advise the nursing staff and nursing aides as cornerstones for the provision of a high quality and safe care environment.
• Direct, provide, and maintain the quality of nursing services provided to patients.
• Develop the nursing organizational chart, nursing education plan and quality improvement initiatives.
• Ensure that superior quality of medical treatment, compassion and understanding are given to every patient served at the CARE Hospitals and Clinic.
• Develop and communicate the vision and mission statement of the Nursing Department.
• Represent the nursing staff as a hospital leader.
• Participate with other hospital leaders in decision making processes, including planning and budgeting.
• Recommend space, medical technology, staffing and other resources needed by the department and have a process to address shortages.
• Participate in the hospital’s multi-disciplinary structures such as quality improvement, infection control, pharmacy and therapeutics committees.
• Conduct short and long‑range strategic planning in accordance with hospital objectives.
• Ensure committee recommendations are implemented at the nursing level.
• Provide guidance and leadership to all nursing staff to ensure effective and efficient flow of work and that employees recognize their fundamental role in the department.
• Assume authority, responsibility, and accountability for nursing service effectiveness.
• Establish, oversee, and approve nursing policies, procedures, and professional standards of practice.
• Ensure participation with other hospital leaders in developing practices that promote patient and staff safety (infection control, safe medication management, safe use of medical equipment, fire safety).
• Develop essential policies and procedures within nursing scope, including patient transfer, patient discharge, and implementation of delivery methods.
• Participate in recruitment and hiring of qualified nurses as outlined in the leadership chapter.
• Monitor performance of nursing staff and ensure their ongoing competency.
• Develop a staffing plan that maintains adequate staffing levels in all nursing units using evidence‑based estimation of staff needed per shift.
• Ensure availability of sufficient licensed registered nurses to provide care for all patients.
• Perform other tasks and duties assigned within the scope of competency.

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
• Master’s degree in Nursing along with a Diploma/certification in administration is preferred

• Valid license from Saudi Commission for Health Specialities
• BLS is mandatory

• 10 years of related experience in a large scale health care organization in nursing, including a minimum of five (5) years as a Director of Nursing or Assistant Director of Nursing.
• Middle East experience is preferred.
• Experience working with multicultural nursing staff.

• Previous administrative experience.

• Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate hospital‑wide nursing initiatives.
• Strong interpersonal skills such as leadership, communication, persuasion, motivation, and loyalty.
• Ability to select, develop, manage and motivate nursing personnel.
• Professional integrity, credibility, and character.
• Proficiency in English.
• Communication in spoken Arabic is desirable.
