Job DescriptionThe Installation Engineer in the event fabrication workshop is responsible for the hands‑on assembly, setup, and dismantlement of custom‑built scenic elements, exhibition stands, displays, and event structures at client venues and event sites. Working under the Installation Manager, this role ensures that all fabricated components are installed accurately, safely, and in line with approved design specifications. The ideal candidate is a technically skilled and physically capable individual with direct experience in event installation or fit‑out, who can work efficiently under site conditions and tight event timelines.
Key Responsibilities- Assembly & Setup:
Execute the physical installation of scenic elements, structures, branding, and custom props in accordance with design drawings and Installation Manager's direction. - Dismantlement:
Carry out safe and efficient breakdown of all installed items post‑event, ensuring materials are correctly packed and returned. - Drawing Compliance:
Interpret and work from technical drawings, assembly guides, and site layouts to ensure accurate installation. - On‑Site Problem‑Solving:
Identify and resolve minor technical issues during installation, escalating complex problems to the Installation Manager.
- Quality Checks:
Inspect installed elements against approved drawings and samples, ensuring structural integrity and finish quality. - Snag Resolution:
Address punch‑list items and snags identified during or after installation promptly. - Site Cleanliness:
Maintain a clean, organized work area throughout the installation and dismantlement process.
- HSE Compliance:
Follow all site‑specific and company health and safety protocols; use correct PPE at all times. - Toolbox Talks:
Actively participate in pre‑installation safety briefings and toolbox talks. - Hazard Reporting:
Identify and immediately report any unsafe site conditions, near‑misses, or equipment issues to the Installation Manager.
- Equipment Operation:
Operate hand tools, power tools, and rigging equipment correctly; operate elevated work platforms (MEWPs) where certified. - Asset Care:
Maintain and account for all tools, equipment, and installation hardware assigned to the site. - Loading & Transport Support:
Assist with loading, unloading, and transporting fabricated elements between the workshop and site.
- Team
Collaboration:
Work closely with fellow engineers, subcontractors, and venue staff under the direction of the Installation Manager. - Progress Reporting:
Provide timely updates to the Installation Manager on task completion, issues, and material requirements.
- Experience:
3–5 years of hands‑on installation experience in the event industry, exhibition fit‑out, scenery construction, or related field. - Technical
Skills:
Solid practical knowledge of carpentry, metal fabrication, branding applications, and/or rigging. - Drawing Reading:
Ability to interpret technical drawings, assembly diagrams, and site layout plans. - Logistics Awareness:
Familiarity with load‑in/load‑out procedures, material handling, and transport logistics. - Certifications:
Working at Height, IPAF/MEWP, or relevant site safety certifications preferred. - Software:
Basic Microsoft Office proficiency;
AutoCAD familiarity is a plus. - Education:
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction, or a related technical field preferred; strong field experience is equally valued. - Reliable, physically fit, and able to perform under high‑pressure, deadline‑driven site conditions.
Typical Working Conditions
- Environment:
Must be able to work in a workshop environment, which may include loud noise, dust, and heat, with some on‑site installation work. - Hours:
May require working evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet event deadlines. - Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and handle tight deadlines and to work on site, which may include lifting, standing for long periods, and working in varied conditions.
