Role Context

The Fire and Life Safety Engineer – Inspection will provide field and technical oversight from installation through testing, integrated systems verification, commissioning, authority inspection, and handover. Working with Engineering, Construction, Quality, HSE, Commissioning, ICT, ELV, specialist contractors, consultants, vendors, Airport Operations, and authorities, the role will help ensure that life safety systems perform as designed and satisfy project, regulatory, and operational requirements.

Early identification of installation defects, interface failures, and code compliance issues will be essential to maintaining safe and reliable project delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect Fire and Life Safety installations against approved drawings, specifications, Inspection and Test Plans, Method Statements, and applicable codes.
  • Conduct routine and milestone site inspections covering active construction, testing, and commissioning areas.
  • Review shop drawings, coordinated drawings, calculations, material submittals, equipment data, and technical documentation before inspection.
  • Inspect fire alarm and detection systems including smoke detectors, heat detectors, manual call points, sounders, strobes, modules, panels, and associated devices.
  • Verify installation of sprinkler systems, hydrants, hose reels, fire pumps, jockey pumps, fire tanks, valves, suppression systems, and fire water pipework.
  • Inspect clean agent, water mist, foam, or other special hazard fire suppression systems where applicable.
  • Review installation of smoke control systems and their interfaces with mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Inspect passive fire protection including fire stopping, penetration sealing, fire‑rated doors, rated assemblies, and protected building elements.
  • Verify emergency lighting, exit signage, evacuation‑related systems, and life safety provisions against approved layouts.
  • Confirm FLS equipment locations, coverage, zoning, access requirements, and installation details comply with design criteria.
  • Review hydraulic calculations, flow requirements, pressure criteria, system zoning, and supporting technical information where applicable.
  • Inspect pipework supports, hangers, sleeves, fittings, valves, identification, and installation workmanship.
  • Verify fire alarm cabling, containment, terminations, labeling, interfaces, and associated electrical installation requirements.
  • Coordinate FLS interfaces with BMS, ICT, ELV, Security, Access Control, HVAC, Electrical, Elevators, and specialist building systems.
  • Verify cause and effect matrices and confirm interconnected systems respond correctly during emergency scenarios.
  • Witness pressure testing, flushing, hydrostatic testing, flow testing, alarm verification, functional testing, and other required acceptance tests.
  • Support Integrated Systems Testing and end‑to‑end verification of Fire and Life Safety interfaces.
  • Witness fire alarm cause and effect testing and confirm required emergency sequences operate correctly.
