Role Context The Lighting and AV Engineer will turn project, venue, and client requirements into coordinated technical systems that combine visual presentation, audio performance, lighting control, networking, and power distribution. The role requires both engineering discipline and practical operational knowledge, ensuring systems are not only correctly designed but also reliable during live use. Successful delivery depends on careful coordination between equipment, control systems, signal paths, electrical infrastructure, and venue conditions.
Technical drawings, equipment schedules, testing procedures, and commissioning records will therefore form an important part of the engineer 's responsibilities. The position also provides direct support during installation, setup, and operation. By resolving faults quickly, maintaining equipment proactively, and coordinating with production teams and vendors, the engineer will help protect event continuity, system quality, and overall user experience.
- Design integrated lighting and audio-visual systems based on project specifications and venue requirements.
- Develop technical concepts for corporate event, facility, and production environments.
- Specify lighting fixtures, control equipment, projectors, screens, amplifiers, speakers, and related AV components.
- Prepare detailed system layouts and technical drawings using CAD software.
- Use specialized AV design applications to document system architecture and equipment requirements.
- Develop signal flow diagrams and coordinated equipment schematics.
- Install and configure lighting fixtures and control systems.
- Set up projectors, display systems, screens, audio equipment, and supporting hardware.
- Configure amplifiers, mixing consoles, processors, and control interfaces.
- Test complete lighting and AV systems before handover or live operation.
- Operate lighting consoles during events and technical productions.
- Manage audio mixers and associated control equipment during live activities.
- Monitor system performance and adjust settings to maintain required technical quality.
- Configure and troubleshoot DMX lighting control networks.
- Review audio and video signal paths to identify faults or performance issues.
- Support networked AV systems and related communication protocols.
- Diagnose equipment failures and restore service efficiently.
- Perform preventive maintenance on lighting, audio, video, and control equipment.
- Maintain equipment in reliable operating condition between events and project activities.
- Coordinate technical requirements with event planners, production managers, and project teams.
- Work with clients to clarify operational needs and technical expectations.
- Liaise with suppliers and vendors regarding equipment selection and availability.
- Coordinate delivery, setup, replacement, and technical support for sourced equipment.
- Support inventory control for lighting and AV components.
- Verify that installation practices comply with electrical and safety requirements.
- Ensure power distribution arrangements are appropriate for installed technical equipment.
- Review installations against applicable codes and industry standards.
- Provide technical guidance to clients, operators, and project team members.
- Assist production teams during setup, rehearsals, testing, and live execution.
- Document system configurations and equipment settings for future reference.
- Maintain records of equipment specifications, maintenance activities, and technical changes.
- Prepare troubleshooting and maintenance documentation where required.
- Support video production and content management systems when relevant to the project.
- Coordinate multiple vendors and technical work streams against project deadlines.
- Maintain awareness of emerging AV, lighting, control, and digital production technologies.
- Recommend system improvements based on evolving technical capabilities and operational requirements.
- Adapt quickly when production requirements, venue conditions, or technical priorities change.
Candidates should have 10 years of professional experience in lighting design, AV engineering, event technology, venue systems, broadcast environments, or a closely related technical discipline. Strong practical knowledge of professional lighting equipment is required, including LED fixtures, moving lights, conventional lighting, lighting consoles, and control technologies.
