Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU / Medical Step Down – Nights | Roanoke Rapids, NC

Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU/Step Down Nights in Roanoke Rapids, NC: 13-week travel nursing contract (Mar 9–Jun 9, 2026). Must have PCU/Step Down experience, ACLS/BLS, NIHSS. Join a collaborative team and enjoy flexible scheduling.

  • Position: Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU / Medical Step Down Unit (Night Shift)
  • Location: Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina 27870 (On-site) — Roanoke Rapids healthcare / North Carolina nursing jobs
  • Contract Duration: 13 weeks (March 9, 2026 – June 9, 2026)
  • Estimated Weekly Pay: $1,860 – $1,960 (estimated; varies with shift differentials and overtime)
  • Shift: 12-hour night shifts; ~36 hours per week
  • Unit: Medical Step Down / Progressive Care Unit (PCU / Medical Intermediate)
  • Unit Size & Census: 27 medical beds + 8 medical intermediate beds (Total 35; avg census 25–30)
  • Staffing Ratios: Charge Nurse 1:2; RN/LPN 1:5 (flex to
    6);
    Intermediate beds max 1:4; CNA 1:7–9
  • Scheduling: Flexible self-scheduling options to support unit needs
  • Compliance: Relias exams required to pass upon booking (2 attempts allowed)
Required Qualifications – Travel RN / Step-Down Nurse
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years recent PCU/Step Down or acute care RN experience required (telemetry/step-down experience preferred)
  • License: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Compact accepted) — eligible for North Carolina nursing jobs
  • Certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Clinical Skills: Proficiency with IV insertion, medication administration, telemetry monitoring, patient assessment, and progressive care interventions
  • Other: Must comply with 80-mile radius rule; ability to complete onboarding and testing requirements
Key Responsibilities – Travel Registered Nurse (PCU/Step-Down)
  • Deliver high-quality nursing care to PCU/Medical Step Down patients, following facility and regulatory standards
  • Monitor and assess patients with conditions such as chest pain/possible MI, CHF, PE, GI bleed, COPD/respiratory failure, diabetes, and acute/chronic renal failure
  • Initiate/maintain IV access, administer medications, infusions, and ordered therapies
  • Perform telemetry/continuous monitoring and promptly recognize clinical changes; escalate to providers appropriately
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, physicians, and allied health staff to coordinate patient care
  • Document patient care accurately in the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Participate in flexible self-scheduling to support unit staffing needs
