Registered Nurse – Medical/Surgical

Roanoke Rapids, NC

Contract | Full-Time | Onsite | Days (0700–1930) | 12-Hour Shifts | 36 Hours/Week

• Provide direct patient care on a 36-bed Medical/Surgical unit maintaining a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5–6, utilizing a primary nursing care delivery model
• Manage a broad range of diagnoses including stroke, GI bleed, acute kidney injury, COPD exacerbation, sepsis, hip/ankle fractures, diabetes, oncology, post-operative care, and comfort care
• Perform and assist with bedside procedures including chest tube setup and care, wound vacs, thoracentesis, paracentesis, peritoneal dialysis, central line placement, tracheostomy care, CPAP/BiPAP, CBI, and incision and debridement
• Administer and monitor medications including heparin, Lasix/Bumex drips, Cardizem/Lopressor/Labetalol IV push, TPN/PPN, insulin, Coumadin, and Lovenox
• Utilize EPIC for all computerized charting and documentation
• Float to other nursing areas as needed based on census and unit requirements

• Active RN license (Compact license accepted)
• Minimum 2 years of Medical/Surgical nursing experience
• Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association
• Current NIH Stroke Scale certification
• Proficiency with IV insertion
• Travel nursing experience required; must comply with the 80-mile radius rule

• Experience with EPIC electronic health records
• Familiarity with common Med/Surg equipment including Alaris IV pumps, Omni feeding pumps, and Welch-Allyn VS machines
• Experience working with ancillary staff in a team-based nursing environment

• Work in a well-supported Med/Surg environment with access to ancillary staff and a collaborative charge nurse and primary nurse care delivery model
• Gain diverse clinical experience across a wide range of diagnoses, procedures, and post-operative patient populations
