Overview
Virginia Western Community College, a public two‑year institution in the Roanoke Valley, is seeking part‑time Health Information Management Adjunct Faculty to teach courses supporting the Health Information Management Career Studies Certificates and the Medical Administrative Management Specialization A.A.S. degree. Adjunct faculty are appointed on a course‑by‑course, semester basis as needed. Classes are delivered in‑person, hybrid, or online.
Responsibilities- Develop and deliver course materials on medical office procedures, health information management, medical coding, electronic billing, and administrative technologies.
- Create syllabi, assessments, and exams while maintaining currency in teaching disciplines and community college education trends.
- Engage in departmental communication and create a supportive learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds.
- May perform other duties as assigned and assist in emergency situations as required.
- Master’s degree in health information management, medical office administration, business administration, or a related field; or a Master’s degree with 18 graduate semester hours in medical administration, health informatics, or business‑related disciplines.
- At least two years of occupational experience in medical office management, health information systems, or administrative support roles in healthcare settings.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; experience writing syllabi and exams.
- Experience using teaching technology and delivering online courses.
- Experience teaching in a community college setting.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations.
Offer contingent upon completion of an extensive criminal background investigation, which may include fingerprint checks, local agency checks, employment verification, education verification, credit checks, and other requested checks by VCCS. Selected candidates may also be required to complete the Commonwealth’s Statement of Economic Interest.
