Electrical Substation Engineer II (Mid-Level)

About the Opportunity:
We are seeking a motivated Electrical Substation Engineer II to join our growing Power Delivery team in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. This position supports the planning, design, and execution of electrical substation projects for utility, industrial, and energy clients. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of substation engineering experience and a strong understanding of high-voltage power systems, substation design principles, and utility industry standards.

Responsibilities:
Perform engineering and design activities for transmission and distribution substations. Develop physical substation layouts, equipment arrangements, grounding plans, conduit plans, and electrical calculations. Prepare and review engineering deliverables, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and protection and control design packages. Coordinate with civil, structural, protection & control, transmission line, and construction teams throughout project execution. Support equipment selection and specifications for transformers, breakers, switches, reactors, capacitor banks, and other substation equipment.

Participate in client meetings and technical discussions. Review vendor drawings and equipment submittals. Assist with project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and engineering estimates. Support construction, commissioning, and field activities as needed. Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and utility requirements.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering minimum required. 2-4 years' minimum relevant experience in refining and petrochemical industry. Receives limited instruction on routine work and detailed instruction on new assignment from more experienced engineer. Adjusts to varying demands of work and performs well. Communicates effectively orally and in writing. Participates on teams effectively. Accepts direction from the team. Individually contributes to success of the team.

Supports project teams and departments in a positive and productive manner. Works well with others to accomplish common goals and objectives. Serves as point of contact for external or internal customers. Follows through on commitments made to internal and external customers. Able to manage multiple responsibilities with set expectations and meet deadlines.

Working Conditions:

Required Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program. Minimum of 3 years of electrical substation engineering experience. Experience supporting transmission and distribution substation projects. Knowledge of substation layout and design practices. Familiarity with utility standards, NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and applicable industry codes. Experience using engineering and design software such as AutoCAD, Micro Station, or similar tools. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Must currently reside in the Dallas-Fort Worth area or be willing to relocate prior to starting employment. Preferred Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification. Experience working with EPC contractors,…
