RGC Resources Inc., publicly traded on Nasdaq (RGCO) and parent company of Roanoke Gas Company, is seeking candidates for the position Senior Accountant.
Responsibilities- Perform technical accounting duties related to financial and SEC reporting.
- Understand and prepare journal entries.
- Reconcile general ledger and balance sheet account.
- Organize and maintain financial data and backup documentation.
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, and analyze fluctuations.
- Ensure all finance and accounting operations comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) as well as federal and state laws and regulations.
- Perform fiscal month-, quarter-, and year-end close activities and assist with external audits.
- Provide assistance with testing and reviewing internal control processes and procedures.
- Research and assist with implementation of new accounting standards.
- Other duties as assigned to meet organizational requirements.
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP.
- At least 2-4 years of public or industry accounting experience.
- Bachelor’s level accounting degree/comparable field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience, which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform job duties.
- Ability to be proactive and take independent action, seek out opportunities to improve processes, and drive projects to completion.
- Ability to learn new tasks quickly and commit to continuous learning and development.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to build successful relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Strong decision-making and analytical skills, attention to detail and ability to exercise sound judgment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
- Preferred knowledge of accounting software (Microsoft GP).
- Though not required, preference will be given to candidates with current eligibility for CPA/CMA certification(s), public company experience as related to SEC filings and reporting, and utility industry experience.
