This is an onsite position in Roanoke, Virginia and is not a remote or hybrid role.
Position SummaryVirginia Transformer is seeking a Plant Accountant to support manufacturing operations through financial analysis, cost accounting, and data-driven decision making. This role partners closely with Operations, Supply Chain, Production, and Finance to ensure accurate product costing, inventory valuation, manufacturing reporting, and cost control initiatives.
The ideal candidate enjoys working with large datasets, identifying trends, improving reporting, and providing actionable financial insights that drive operational performance.
Key Responsibilities- Manage all aspects of plant cost accounting, including product costing, inventory valuation, and manufacturing variances.
- Analyze material, labor, and overhead costs to identify savings opportunities and improve profitability.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly manufacturing financial reports and KPI dashboards.
- Perform detailed cost analysis on production, inventory scrap, rework, and operational efficiencies.
- Partner with Operations and Production leadership to understand cost drivers and recommend improvements.
- Support month-end close activities, journal entries, reconciliations, and inventory accounting.
- Monitor inventory accuracy and assist with cycle counts and physical inventories.
- Develop financial models and data analysis to support capital projects and business decisions.
- Build automated reports and dashboards using ERP data and business intelligence tools.
- Analyze manufacturing trends, identify anomalies, and communicate findings to leadership.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and annual operating plans.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company accounting policies.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing and finance.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3+ years of manufacturing accounting or plant accounting experience.
- Strong cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience performing detailed cost analysis and variance analysis.
- Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including Pivot Tables, Power Query, and complex formulas.
- Experience with ERP systems (Oracle experience preferred).
- Experience using Power BI
, SQL, Access, or other data analytics tools is highly desirable. - Strong understanding of inventory accounting, standard costing, and manufacturing financial reporting.
