PT Administrative Assistant/Culinary Arts Lab Technician
Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board. Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County.
The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses.
Virginia Western Community College is accepting applications for a part-time Administrative Assistant/Culinary Arts Lab Technician in the Culinary Arts Department in the School of Business, Technologies & Trades. This position provides kitchen lab management and administrative assistance to the faculty in the culinary arts program. Position duties include assistance with inventory management, inventory delivery receipt and stocking/storage, facility upkeep including cleaning and maintenance requests, various clerical duties in support of the program and faculty to include supporting multiple kitchen labs (preparation/setup/breakdown).
Special Assignments
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
- Experience in office management, purchasing procedures, managing inventory and ability to complete basic math calculations. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a busy environment. Experience in using computers and software. Experience in Internet navigation skills and web-based software. Effective public relations skills and the ability to work with a diverse population including employees, students, and the general public.
Effective verbal and written communications skills.
Additional Considerations
- Associate's degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, Business, Office Management, or related field. Preferred qualifications include knowledge of the academic environment, People Soft, EVA, and Microsoft Office. Ability to lift up to of 50 pounds and use of hand trucks/carts. Experience in the food-service industry in purchasing, inventory and food rotation, general kitchen cleaning and sanitizing and customer service/retail.
