Part-Time Logistics Support Specialist
The City of Roanoke's Fire-EMS Department is seeking a part-time Logistics Support Specialist responsible for supporting the operational readiness of the Fire and EMS Department by repairing equipment or apparatus as necessary. This position ensures emergency personnel have the equipment and resources necessary to provide effective emergency response while maintaining compliance with departmental standards.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesConduct routine inspections of apparatus.
Coordinate maintenance and repairs of equipment with the Fire Captain Logistics Officer.
Assist with preparing apparatus and equipment for inspections and emergency readiness.
Organize storage areas to ensure equipment is secure, accessible, and properly labeled.
Assist with annual inventory audits and budget planning for equipment replacement.
Support emergency incidents or special events by providing logistical assistance as needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED required.
Virginian Department of Fire Programs Emergency Operations Course (EVOC)
Experience in logistics, inventory management, emergency services, warehouse operations, or a related field preferred.
Working knowledge of Fire and EMS equipment is preferred.
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
Strong organizational, communication, and computer skills.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
Work SchedulePart-time, approximately 20–29 hours per week (flexible based on department needs).
Occasional evenings, weekend, or holiday hours may be required.
May be required to respond during emergencies or major incidents for logistical support.
Physical RequirementsFrequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, and lifting.
Ability to move equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.
Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments under varying weather conditions.
Preferred CertificationsFEMA Incident Command System (ICS-100 and ICS-200) certifications.
CPR certification (preferred but not required).
Forklift certification (if applicable).
