Project Engineer, Civil Engineering

E.C. Pace Company is looking for a self-motivated, detail-oriented Project Engineer to join our growing company. This is an entry-level opportunity ideal for a recent college graduate or someone with less than five years of experience who is interested in building a career in heavy civil construction.

The Project Engineer will work alongside Project Managers and Superintendents to ensure successful on-time and on-budget completion of heavy civil construction projects.

• Perform project stakeout utilizing both GPS and traditional survey methods.
• Prepare, distribute, and monitor construction submittals and project RFIs.
• Perform detailed quantity take-offs and work with vendors to order project materials.
• Assist Project Manager with subcontractor management to include scheduling, monitoring work progress, and monthly payment.
• Monitor project progress through daily record keeping and monthly schedule updates (Primavera P6).
• Develop and implement project specific Maintenance of Traffic plans.
• Suggest Value Engineering proposals to project owners as appropriate.

This position is based out of our office in Roanoke, VA with regional travel to jobsites.

Project Engineer will have the opportunity to spend time in the field learning the various aspects of work and will be expected to perform both field and office tasks to support construction.

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field preferred; recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
• 0–5 years of project engineer, assistant project manager, construction, internship, or related experience.
• Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions and participate in occasional nighttime and weekend work.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
• Strong attention to detail and organization.
• Good communication skills including both verbal and written to a variety of occupational skill sets.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with guidance from senior team members.
