Job Description
Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board.
Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses.
Come teach the next generation of nurses in a student-focused, team-oriented environment! Virginia Western Community College, located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Roanoke Valley, is accepting applications for a full-time, nine-month Practical Nursing Faculty in the School of Health Professions beginning the Fall 2026 semester (i.e., August 2026).
Nine-month teaching faculty contracts for the full academic year are from August 16th to May 15th with pay and benefits are spread over 12 months. The incumbent will have a teaching load of approximately 15 credits per semester, which may include distance-learning courses, on-campus labs, and off-campus clinical experiences during the day and evening, on weekdays and weekends. Instruction may be provided in a classroom, laboratory, and/or clinical setting.
Responsibilities include teaching college level courses in Practical Nursing, as well as serving as the Program Head for the Certificate in Practical Nursing Program which involves administrative responsibilities such as curriculum development, course and program assessments, continuous quality improvement, budget planning/preparation, purchasing, mentoring program faculty/staff, Virginia Board of Nursing management, as well as clinical site obtainment and coordination. Faculty teaching responsibilities may include face-to-face and hybrid/distance-learning courses, as well as on-campus labs during the day and evening, on weekdays and weekends.
In addition to teaching, all faculty members advise students, serve on college committees, and participate in other activities that support the mission of the college. Such activities may include, but are not limited to: accreditation activities, institutional effectiveness activities, club sponsorship, student recruitment, course and program evaluation, community service, and mentoring new and part-time faculty. Faculty are expected to maintain currency in their teaching disciplines and in trends in community college education.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
* Current unencumbered Virginia licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
